yes there are quite a few shops within 10-15 minute walk and there is a crappy spar shop within broadgate campus which sells most stuff you will need.

And there's Sainsbury's in Beeston, which is a short walk away. And a wilkinsons for toiletries and that kind of thing. If you're course is on University Park and you want to be self catered then i really would recommend Broadgate. xx

The rooms are really nice. The furnishing is quite new and they are about 12 foot by 7 1/2 foot (definately not accurate... worked out by lying people across the floor )

I have pictures of my own room which is the general room type.

E-mail me if you want a couple... [email protected]

Supermarkets and shops are right on our doorstep, 5-10 min walk into beeston and its got all that you need

Yeh Broadgate will be the best as its only about a 15/20 min walk to the centre of campus from BG and just opposite the West Entrance. Theres quite a few shops and takeaways in Beeston, but opposite the halls the no. 5 bus takes u into town which is handy.

Haha! What's this about the rooms being really nice? Yeah sure, if u spunk the cash on an en suite room in one of the new blocks like Junipers, Maples or Mulberries (there are more) but if you just going for the standard plus like I did, you'll get chucked in one of the old blocks (I'm in Elms) and the rooms are tiny!

Furnishings are not nice - again, unless ur in a new block.

I too can show you pictures of my room if u so wish [email protected]

I actually intend to get a web site up and running soon offering an alternative prospectus to Notts students, with the truth about everything from accomodation, week one, notts city, pretty much everything that I wanted to know when i was applying but could never find out. watch this space.

Oh, and if ur not really bothered about whether u go self catered or catered - go catered

The old rooms are no smaller than any of the catered halls (except their en-suite), and the new rooms are bigger.

to be honest - iv only been to one room and that was in willoughby - so im not exactly the most qualified person to say catered halls are nicer - im just saying that not all the rooms in bgp are nicer than catered halls, but yeah - the new blocks are soooo nice - worth the extra cash i reckon
lol willoughyby rooms are great hehe, well they are on the top floor as they have been refurbished! who do u know in willoughby dunkymunky?

Some general advice about people thinking of going to Broadgate Park:

If you want self catered, and your on university park, its the closest you can get to everything. People who are in Raleigh have to catch a bus about half an hour before lectures start, whereas we can get to Portland in 20 minutes easy peasy. Its a bit more of a walk, but I think some of the halls are just as far, it all depends which building your going to. Plus, the extra walking means you don't have to fork out the £45 for gym membership :-)

Im in En Suite and the rooms are very nice, and the kitchens are massive with all appliances only a year old. It is true that the rooms in standard arn't as nice, but they're no worse than the catered hall rooms I've seen. They are, predictably, standard, but perfectly livable and you get your bathroom cleaned for you (as its shared), us en suite people have to do it ourselves :frown:

The main problem I can see with Broadgate park is the social side of it. I was put in a flat with all international students, dont get me wrong they're lovely people, but they generally hang around with people they met before all the english students arrived. As far as Im aware Boadgate doesnt try to match up students who will get along like some other unis, so its a bit pot luck whether you get people you get on with. As you can stay here all year there are a lot of international students, especially in the EnSuite accomodation, who's friendship groups are harder to break into. I was really lucky and met some fantastic people from other flats/buildings, but if your particularly shy its harder to meet people when there's a locked flat door separating you from everyone. So, if your not too bothered about paying for a lot of your meals twice (because you miss the designated meal times in catered), then catered halls are definatly the easy option socially.

A few other little bits of info :
- Broadgate has its own bar, its a good place to hang out as we dont get common rooms like the halls, but its not exactly a hive of activity once week one is over.
- The Spa is crappy and pricey, but useful if you just want a few bits, or maybe heavy stuff that you dont want to have to lug back from Sainsbury's (Plus it sells Ben and Jerry's! :-P)
- If you have a car you will make friends fast (and your own life a bit easier)
- The bus into town and the train station is easy, a returns £2.40
- Cooking isn't as hard as you think, get one of the simple student cook books and your away.
- SNS internet connection is £70 and its pretty fast on my laptop, but it does depend on the time of day and the quality of your pc

That's about it people, sorry about the long post but I hope it's cleared a few things up for people, I know I was clueless when I arrived, the info on the Notts website is a bit vague.

I have managed to escape broadgate and got back into derby where i was staying oringinally. With broadgate being privately owned now, if you decide to leave uni you have to pay for the rest of the year unless you find someone to replace you.
nope dont know her! cant even remember seeing her around halls, but then i am hopeless with faces! Next time your in willoughby come and say hi, im on ze top floor
