changing degree course

What are the chances of getting to Lancaster and being able to change degree course??? (if i have the right grades)

Has anyone done this?

I havnt got an offer yet but it is my first choice - do you think i should contact the Uni before i go (if i get a place) to see if i can change?? Chances of them letting me?!

Media and cultural studies ---> English Language and Creative Writing

I would contact them before... Although, you could theoretically take English Lang and Creative Writing as minors... but the problem is, Creative Writing is over-subscribed so they give places to everyone within the department first so you might not get on.

So in conclusion, I'd asked them first to avoid disappointment later on.

At lacaster it is quite easy to change degree course, as in most subject you are admitted through your major then you take 2 minor subjects in your first year which if you wish you can change to majors in your second year. If your course is one that is only a major (no minors allowed) like Environmental science, social work etc then ask the depatment. Either way phone up admissions and ask.

LittleMiss - thanks. i think i read in their prospectus somewhere that quite a high proportion of students end up doing soething completely different than what they originally applied for. If this is true then ill be happy! lol! Think i'll give admissions a ring and check just in case!

some people dont like the whole major and minor scheme at lancaster, however i think its a great idea. im not enjoying my major too much but i love my minor, and now its too late to change course, so im gunna stick it out for the first year, then when second year starts i can simply change my minor to my major, and drop my original major completely! [if that makes any sense!!! lol]

Stevo87 - thanks for the info! it does make sense! That has actually put my mind at rest! So its quite easy to swap to majoring in one of your minors after the first year? I got my offer from Lancaster today so im sooo happy :biggrin:

They only want BBB aswell and i was expecting to have to get ABB (grades in prospectus) so :biggrin:

Also, just so you know, when you start uni, you can swap the course over if you dont like it within the first 3 weeks, you just need permission from the department.
