I've done them so often it's like second nature now. I'd much rather give a powerpoint than write an essay!

(I do hate it when people giving presentations just give a rehearsed speech, or even worse have the speech written down infront of them word-to-word!)

haha, i use word to word for my presentation, otherwise speaking without my notes would be jumbled and wouldn't make sense!

That's why we have powerpoint slides / memory cards. If you know your subject well enough you shouldn't need a speech :p:

I have to do a presentation on Tuesday...any tips?!
Know your subject

Eye contact is essential

Dont take in too many notes, you will get more points for just jabbering away happily than looking down at notes nervously all the time and getting muddled up

Smiling can get you a long way to a good mark

Ewww....presentations...*cries* :frown:

I hate them. I always look like a foolio. I have two this year. Luckily not until the summer - time to get psyched :p:

Mine so far have all been in groups. As drama students, we do a lot of spicing them up (sock puppets, Star Wars music, Eurotrash takeoffs, etc.) which makes them a lot more enjoyable to do and to watch. They can be blimming long though. Our main presentations in one module are supposed to be an hour long
I wish I could turn my engineering presentations into Eurotrash micky takes! :frown:

Oh my god, don't read it out from a piece of paper!! I know you might get nervous and be afraid of forgetting stuff, but you can use notes for that. It's pure torture for the audience to listen to a monotonous word-to-word presentation and it might make you look like you don't really know much about what you're trying to present. Presentations should be like "mini-lectures", and I bet you wouldn't want a lecturer who reads out loud for an hour.
The tips I'd give are: narrow down everything to the main issues you want to get across, do rely on powerpoint or similar (makes it easier for the audience to follow and understand), print out the slides and write notes on them as you're revising the speech, try and engage the audience by talking *to* them -not to the tutor or the computer, lol-, and relax! Most of the time you'll face students who are in your same situation and even lecturers sometimes make mistakes and have to correct themselves, so if something goes wrong don't think it's because you're no good, it's just because it happens! Crack a joke and correct your mistake!
Haha, you're in the 3rd year of your course and this is the first time you're going to be filmed? I am in the 1st year of my degree and we've already had to do 3 presentations, 1 of which was in a multimedia lab using a blue screen, filmed and shown to about 50 people on my course live, with the potential for it to be broadcast around university. It wasn't much fun but I survived!

Just wondering what experiences people have in their presentation at uni'

I am in my 3rd and final year, did a individual presentation today on my individual project to 18 students and my seminar tutor

Had to answer questions at the end and the presentation was filmed

I done two group presentation in my 1st year, and one in my 2nd year, the individual was by far the toughest
Yeah I know what you mean  I had to do heaps in my psych classes...

always brought some foodies just in case things hit rock bottom

Anyway one thing I learnt was to stop saying 'um's' and 'uh's so much (or 'erms' in your case, haha :p: ) and to rehearse so you don't get too nervous.
