If I can barely stand winter in California, I seriously think I'll have some problems in the UK... Good luck with getting that thing fixed!

I reported it yesterday and my radiator is still freezing cold, yet the pipe underneath is red hot! :frown: brrrrrr...

Bleed your radiator! You know the end bits with the knob you get a special key or a spanner turn it get a bucket and the water drips out. Sometimes air gets trapped so you have to do that then the hot water rushes in! hope this helped you probs already know :frown:

Go and see whoever is responsible for your accommodation and demand a portable heater to tide you over until your heating is repaired. I had a similar problem - the radiator in my room didn't work and I had to put up with temperatures of 10 degrees...not fun. Things were finally sorted out when I wrote a letter to the college. Pester them until they take some action - you can't be without heating in this freezing weather.

Good luck.

Lol, in my second year the heating system broke down during the coldest part of the winter and we were wandering around wrapped up in our duvets, with scarves and gloves on. Since then, everytime I hear the song by Muse that goes "I'm freeeeziiing" I can't help but thinking about that, lol!

I am so incredibly cold. We don't have radiators in our room - the heating is the same for the whole corridor, and it's having a few problems at the moment.

buy a cheap fan heater - they use up masses of electricity but tbh if your in halls and they don't charge you for your electricity and can't heat the place properly then that's the hall managers problem not yours.

We used to have trouble with the electricity supplies in our building because so many people would use portable heaters and overload the supply...so they finally got round to fixing the radiators...

Won't that trip the breaker/fuse in halls though? I thought they most halls only allow to consume a maximum of around 2kw so if the kettle was on at the same time it would trip.

The radiator may need bleeding or there could be a thermostat on them like the ones in my house, you just need to turn the heat up on it.

I never had the radiator on at all in halls last year. I was nice and warm without it!! My roommate on the other hand thought that the radiator was broken and moaned about it. Never did tell him it simply wasn't switched on......

Eek! Some halls didn't have hot water a few weeks ago..that was a nightmare for them!
