Could anyone explain the grading system at British unis, please? I've heard about getting a first or a 2.1, 2.2 etc but I don't really know what those mean... So is a 1.1. the best ? And what's the worst? Can you compare them to A, B, C ... ? Thanks for helping me out

    The order is:

    1st
    2:1 (sometimes called 2 I or 2 A)
    2:2 (sometimes called 2 II or 2 B)
    3rd
    Pass
    Fail

You really need a 1st or a 2:1 to get good recognition for your degree.

Cool, thanks. And then for each essay you get a grade on, you get these grades, too? Or are those just for the degree altogether?

Ah, interesting! Well, thanks for letting me know

So on essays and assignments I'll usually get a percentage? How do I know when something's good? Like in the US, everything below 70 is pretty bad. Is it the same in the UK? What's excellent, what's good and what's alright? And where does it start to be really bad? Thanks

generally (although this is different pretty much everywhere)

    70%+ = 1st
    60%+ = 2i
    50%+ = 2ii
    40%+ = Pass/third

and although that might make it look like it's really easy to get a 1st - it isn't
It definitely isn't. It's difficult to fail altogether, but damn hard to get a 1st.

Okay, I'll take your word for it, thanks. So basically, anything above 50% is very much acceptable?
