Shingles

Any one know if there is anyway to get rid of shingles scars?
I had it a year ago, and I've still got some white scars on my back. they aren't that big, or really that noticeable, but I was still curious to know if anyone knew any herbal remedies/creams for them.
(In case anyone is wondering, shingles is the reoccurance of chicken pox, when it is reactivated. It causes nerve pain, generally in the back, and leaves nasty scars!)
the annoying thing is, its almost always old people who get it, so I must have a really rubbish immune system if I've got it as a teenager XD
I've just recently had shingles again, but I last had them 5 years ago. The scar was dark brown to begin with and faded to white, just starting to go back to my normal skin colour (and then i got it again!!! sucks.)
Just wait for it and it will happen.

Vitamin E cream might help. They will fade with time. Try to stay away from evil scar bleaches - not good for you!
i think Bio Oil is good for helping scars and blemishes fade as well

Cool. Thanks
I'll give your suggestions a try, if I can find the creams!
And Little Red Girl, you have my sympathy, if you've got recurring shingles! :s-smilie: It was bad enough having it once! Hope you feel better soon...

It's a reoccurance of chicken pox. When you get chicken pox, the virus remains in your body, although you are immune to it. However, if your immune system is weakened (usually if you have another illness) it can infect your body again. It acts on a band of nerves, most commonly going in a circle around the back, although some unfortunate people get it on their face. It causes chicken pox like scabs to appear, which leaves reddy-brown scars, which turn white after a while. Its also pretty painful, I don't know the exact mechanisms of it, but it has something to do with the nerves it has infected.

Ok, or I could have just looked it up on wilkipedia... shush!
