Noooooooooooo not sylvia plath!!!! Her poetry is so self absorbed! However I liked the Bell Jar. How can you hate novels? They are the building blocks of literature! I love poetry - writing, reading, analysing, whatever
i have found a kindred spirit...!

lol, that's such a good idea! Did u think of it urself?!
Nah. It's some advice I was given a couple of years ago by... er... someone. Can't remember now. I know it's probably done quite a lot, but thought I'd pass it on as it's a great little pointer.

I wrote sum limeriks, my teacher told me they crap, end of story.
hey hun don't worry what you're teacher said its hard for a limerick to be crap unless it doesn't rhyme in the right places or have the right rhythm - apart from that its just down to personal taste! you're teacher is clearly a philistine!

there once was a philistine teacher
who in fact was a misguided preacher
she said 'those limericks are sh**e
boy! You can't get them right'
if you give me a fiver i'll beat her.

Now, that's a crap limerick - read it and weep, evil teacher!

welcome to the forums, eleenia!
why thank you, i just stumbled across these pages and thought i could be of use to some members who are studying English at school. I've just finished my masters in English and now my brain feels a bit redundant so if you know anyone who needs help on such matters send them my way x

ps i don't usually condone violence against teaching professionals but i think every case should be weighed on its own merits :-)

I wrote this at the beginning of the Iraq war...

The constant flashing of my mind,
As buildings explode into flames
And bursts of light shoot through my eyes.

Innocence and guilt creep between each structure.
Separated by mere anxiety and inspiration,
The walls come crashing down.

I look upon the city with disgust,
Yet rushes of excitement engulf my mind,
And every thought restrains my soul.

Under the heavy rubber souls,
Each crack is filled with silence,
And every bit of sand echoes the sadness.

My feelings move forwards into the distance.
No one has control over the flames,
But my hopes for an end continue to grow.

And I wrote this one quite recently...

Tiredness kills the open mind,
Which slowly seems to drift away,
And then at once becomes forgotten,
As sleepless thoughts devour time.

The gloomy shadows begin to fade,
Until eternity is left in darkness,
Sadness, ecstasy, and pain coalesce,
Leaving notions of pure confusion.

Sleep coasts deeper and deeper,
The helpless dreams become uncontrolled,
Endless periods bring swirls of gladness,
Flashing lights bestow sparks of wisdom.

Your heart is trapped in a twister of distortion,
Your eye-lids shutter and all is forgotten,
Passion and ferocity both evanesce,
The World reappears as it was when you left.
