Difference between GCE Exams and GCSEs?

Hi, can anyone tell me the difference between these 2 examinations? GCE (General Certificate of Education) Exams are set by the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES) and are taken at the end of Year 10 (Seconday School) in Singapore. I'm not quite sure how they compare with GCSEs though. The grading system for the GCE exams start from A1 and end at F9.

Any information would be appreciated.

um im not sure so im gonna take a guess GCSEs ( General Certifcate of seconday education) are usually taken at the end of secondary school (yr 11 in the UK) I think that GCEs are more like O levels so may be harder than GCSEs we doing have the numbers as part of the GCSE grading system it goes from A* - G but most colleges regard A*-C/D as passes

why do you want to know?

you can probably find better info on Google

It depends what comes after 'GCE'. 'GCSE' is 'General Certificate of Secondary Education' (taken at the end of secondary school in Year 11, age 16 or sometimes 15 if you have a late birthday) and is graded from A*-G, with A* being the best, G being the worst and A*-C being the good passes you need for sixth form/college. 'GCE O-level' is 'General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level' which was the old version of GCSE and is still taken by some international students. 'GCE A-level' is 'General Certificate of Education Advanced Level' and is graded from A-E, with all those grades being seen as good passes by universities and employers.
doesn't UCLES have something to do with OCR?

Could I just clarify:- Are the GCE O Levels supposedly more challenging than the GCSEs?

In addition, though we take it at the end of Grade 10, it's also at the age fo 15/16 (depending on the month of birth). Perhaps it's because we've got 3 years of pre-school comparned to 2 in the UK.

Also, our GCE O/A Level exams are taken in November (Practical examinations are in late October.). When are the GCSEs taken?

And gordon2002, what's OCR?
O-levels are meant to be the same as GCSEs (they were the old GCSE), but of course O-levels are harder

GCSES are in january and june, but GCSE maths and english (I think english) are in the November session as well.

OCR is just an exam board

Just to add to that, unless you're doing modular GCSEs where you do exams throughout the 2 years, you do all your exams in June. Our school year in the UK goes from September to July. Usually only people who are resitting their GCSE English and/or maths take them in November. The other main exam boards in the UK apart from OCR are AQA, Edexcel, WJEC (Welsh) and CCEA (Northern Ireland).

The GCSEs are taken at the end of the school year just like the Os are taken at the end of the school year. Singapore's school year starts in January. In the UK, USA, etc. the school year starts after summer which is september for UK.

In terms of depth and breathe, coming from someone who have studies in both singapore(sec3) and uk(gcse years). I would say they are roughly the same. I think Singapore's E Maths are not more difficult then the GCSE Aqa Maths. The A maths was the tough one. As for more challenging or not, it depends on the individual and which specification you're taking I guess. For example, whether it includes coursework or not.
