Girls and the gym.

Righto I go to the gym every day. I do treads, cycling, rowing and cross training all in all the routine is an hour and forty minutes. So I have got good cardio fitness and my legs looked really toned. However my arms are so gangly -even though I play hockey, lax and rackets sports they are just the twiggiest things ever. So yeah I have been wanting to go on the machine weights for ages. But then im scared it just looks wrong for a girl to do that. I dont want to be a brick **** house or anything.

I do some weights, i use teh chest press, leg press and pull down, they help to tone my arms a bit. Talk to one of the gym staff and im sure they will reccomend something to help you and your arms. Dont worry about looking weird using them, loads of girls do.

err you wont be.....chances are you wont be able to lift anything too heavy atm anyway if your arms are gangly....
just get on the machines and stop worrying what you look like. either that or shut up and have gangly arms.

You don't want to be a brick ****house - you won't, unless you train for about 20 years and take testosterone/other drugs.

Girls basically just lack the hormones to build substantial amounts of muscle, so even if you trained correctly, ate correctly, and spent years working out, you would still never look like a bloke.

I always see girls at my gym using the machines, but make sure if you're gonna work out do it properly - so many girls will sit on a machine, stick it on a really light weight and then do about 20 reps very easy and think it'll "tone" them - complete rubbish, this does absolutely bugger all for your muscles.

You need to train the same way as blokes pretty much, and like I said, don't be scared, you won't turn into some muscle bound freak as already mentioned - due to hormones.

erm Don't worry, erm people who look heavy and stuff takes other supplements like protien shakes and hormons and stuff, ask the instructor at your gym to give you a schedual so that you'll work according to ,it's the best choice ever, do chest press, pressup, erm fly, bi curl
women find it hard to make muscle like that because we have little testosterone in our bodies at the is the main hormone used in building muscle!! all the female brick sh*t houses out there take steroids to look like that!

also to tone and not build muscle to lots of reps on a lighter weight!

about 60% or your one rep max (the most you can lift in just one try) and do that for about 20-25 reps!!!

if you can't b bothered to do the whole one rep max business you can just guess, but the last rep you do has to be hard to the point where you could do no more, do that whole ugly grunting thing (very unattrative but only way the muscle will adapt)

Imasillynarb - i totally agree with you, dont you just hate those women who put it on like 5kg and are like i feel zie burn, when they dont even break a sweat!
I do some weights at the gym because they recommended it for calorie burning. I have it on light weights as I'm a weakling basically. I don't feel very feminine doing them but hey!

It's a proven fact that girls feel a bit friskier after a session at the gym.

Yeah, then you go next to them and bench-press 10kg with your amazingly muscly arms, maybe 15 if you're feeling brave and the girl can't help herself, seeing those muscles pumping.

As mentioned, you either build muscle or you don't - you cannot "tone" it - its as simple as that, and there is a certain way to train to build muscle, and thats not by doing 25 easy reps on a light weight.

About half of the time the sporty ones are the thin ones.

Just do some general push ups and a couple weights and you should be fine. Don't have to do too many, and d/w your arms won't become that muscly lol, esp. if you're only doing a few. Remember to stretch though, for at least 30 seconds each arm, before and after training.

People say im really skinny (i admit i am) but I do loads of sport and can beat loads of people at arm wrestles, wrestling who are more muscly and bigger than me I don't get it. I don't do them sports lol I know by just play fighting in the past having play competitions etc I don't understand

I know were talking about appearance here so does anyone know how I can look more sporty instead of small and weak? I used to do chin ups and pressups every morning for about a year and half but still I look thin and weak  Eating more doesn't change anything!
