You have to be referred by your GP and he'll only do that if he thinks you need to see one.

See your doctor, and it depends whether he\she feels its necessary to refer you. May I ask what you need to see a dermatologist about?

Skin problems.

Go and see you GP and they should refer to you to a NHS Dermatologist at you local hospital. However this may take quite some time depending on the severity and what your condition is.

If you go to your GP, they can refer you to one if they think you need to see one. I dont know about waiting times because Ive never seen one. I think you can also pay privately to see one but I can imagine that would be quite expensive.

As others have mentioned, you need to go see your GP and he will refer you if he thinks you need to see a specialist.

Waiting lists obviously depend on where abouts you are...London - it's hard to say really since there are a lot of people in London, but probably many dermatologists too! From my experience, it can take anything between a few months and a year! I needed to see a dermatologist in Wales and had to wait for over a year. In the end, I went to uni so asked to see a dermatologist there instead. This took about 3 to 4 months if i remember correctly..

So yeah, just go see your GP.

See GP, tell him your problem. He will look at it, if HE thinks you ned to see one he will write a referal letter.

The hospital where the consultant works will then write to you with an appointment or will ask you to call in to arrange one.

Waiting times can be up to 3 months long.

do you need a referral? i thought you could just make an appointment.. maybe just in LA :frown:
Yeah, in Britain (unless maybe you go private, not sure) you have to have a referral from your GP. I've been a couple of times and its not too much of a wait, maybe a couple of months, but I presume its quicker if you're an urgent case.

Well I looked into it myself as I have something I wanted to see a dermatologist about, and even for private, like BUPA, you still need a referral from an NHS GP.

Wow, that sucks about waiting times etc  I'm seeing a dermatologist tomorrow, just a check up and I could simply make an appointment with him. Waiting time was like 2 weeks.
