Bad Back

I've done my back in and its killing. I'm going to the docs tomoz if I can get in but in the meantime what can I do to it. I've been taking ibruprofen but not having an affect and i've used a freezing gel on the top of my back and a hot patch at the bottom. Any other suggestions?

When I hurt my back by falling down a flight of stairs, I went to my local pharmacy and asked them for the strongest painkiller I could get over the counter! And I took some time off work (my job was quite physical).
The main thing is to take it easy, but not rest completely - you need to keep moving so you don't stiffen up even more.
My doc gave me some physio exercises to do at home.
Hope you feel better soon xx

I've been to the doctors but they said the strongest they can give is cocodamol and I have that and ibruprofen which I'm taking already. I can hardly type but I'm typing up an assignment so can't avoid it. My one arm feels like its on fire by the elbow and then I've got shooting pains all down my leg and across my shoulder.

If it's that bad maybe you should go back to the doc's? It sounds awful. If it's really having an effect on your ability to do your work, can't you get some extra time to do your assignment?

mwah not doctors I meant pharmacy sorry brain isn't working. I'll have to go to the doctors tomorrow if I can get in. Hopefully they will dose me up on something strong and send me for physio it really kills it needs a massage I'm tempted to pay for one but don't want to go somewhere crap incase they do more harm than good.

Noone in my house at the moment :frown:
I did try to suggest my mate came round just to give me a massage and then pissed off again but unsurprisingly he wasn't up for that lol.

I've had a shower, we don't have a bath.

ive dne my back in sooo many times, i always rub deep heat in and then use a hot water bottel on top of that!! it gets really hot lol but it kills the pain in my experience for a while atleast, so it might numb your back long enough for you to finish off your work perhaps? hope it gets better soon!!

ooh I have some of that I'll try it before I go to bed the freezing stuff should have worn off by then. Excellent anything is worth a try I'm seriously sore.

My Dad gets a sore back and he find lying on the floor and gently stretching helps. I think with the floor being harder than a mattress, it helps. I hope you're feeling better soon :hugs:

I could try that I guess I don't have carpet so its not the best but I could always lay out my exercise mat on the floor and get on that. thanks

Actually WAIT NOOOOOO Viviki....before you do, make sure there is someone else there, incase you can't get back up

I just realised Ican't get on the floor so its not going to work anyway. How the hell am I going to walk to uni tomorrow

One of my mates did his back in and I told him to get on something hard....he just lay on his kitchen bench. Probably not the most hygenic of things but it worked!

Can you get a bus/ride to Uni? If it's really bad, you shouldn't go in hun. :hugs: You probably wouldn't be able to concentrate if you're in a lot of pain.

The first time my Dad slipped his disc, he hung off the banister and it clicked back in, doesn't sound very nice BUT if you hold on to the top of a door frame and kind of...put your weight so that you're gently pulling your back, that might give you a bit of relief?

Reply 18

No its two buses I will have to walk but its 40 mins grrr.

Have to go in lectures are compulsary without a doctors note and I have to hand in something anyway :frown:

I've got it! Alcohol makes you feel less pain and relaxes you...just have a couple of whiskeys before you go out!

I'm sorry I couldn't be much more help :frown: I guess if you're taken pain killers and that, there isn't much else you can do without seeing a doctor. Maybe a hot water bottle, or electric blanket?
