ive been trying to acheive six pack abs for some time now, when i flex them in the mirror i can see them, but when im just standing up straight i can just make them out, anyone now of some good high intensity but short duration workout which will help me loose that layer of fat?

Go for the beginner one first and see how you do.
Easier way to lose that layer of fat is to just eat less calories than you burn and it will go relatively quickly...
Incorporate that with HIIT and a bit of weight training and you'll be set.

Exercises have very little to do with showing your abs.
It's all about diet.
