I'm currently doing my history coursework at the minute. But its way too long. It's meant to be 3,000 words, it was 7,000 and I've eventually managed to cut it down to 4,500...still too long I gave it to my teacher to look at and it hasn't helped at all...in fact in a lot of places it's telling me to add some more  not what I wanted or needed!! So has anyone got any advice out there for me about how to cut this last bit down because I am not really stuck.

Cut out paragraphs that appear to go off on a tangent. Keep your best paragraphs.
Once you have your best paragraphs - You need to tighten your sentences; indeed the whole structure of the essay may need to be tightened.
Make your work concise - Don't over fluff the point you are trying to make in the essay.
