Driving near misses

How many near misses have you had whilst driving? Ive had 4 since the beginning of december(when I passed my test).
1st - overtaking a cyclist, car pulled out of a junction and headed my way whilst i was half way around him, had to break and swerve back in almost whacking the cyclist out.
2nd - coming up to a quiet mini roundabout, the silly cow in the other car obviously didnt realise it was priority to the right(or that i was on the right) went straight over the roundabout whilst I was turning right, had to break in the middle of the roundabout to avoid a collision
3rd - going straight on at a double lane mini roundabout, car in the right hand lane went around the round about swerved straight into my lane, almost whacking out my front end
4th - happened today, theres a turning which is really sharp and big enough for about, 2 fiat puntos to fit through, I was about to go round only to noticed there was a big lorry emerging from the trees, I had to take the corner REALLY tightly, the car was 'sliding' and there was this horrid noise coming from the tyres.

These are my near misses so far, Im bound to have more, all of my friends that are driving have also had many near misses/70% have already had accidents.

What about yours?

I've had a few near misses and also an accident but it wasnt my fault as some ****** jumped a red light but i cant prove it.

i was driving with me dad the other day; i was at a junction, going to turn left. some dude on the pavement walked to the junction (but where i was turning into) and waitied for a bit. i didnt think he was going to cross so i went forward, at the same time, i saw a bmw come down from the other side! he had to swerve a little so he didnt hit me! then i let the dude cross and continue..

Hmmmm....I'm not sure if they're actaully near misses or hits! In my defence, I've haven't hit anything for at least three months...

1. The first time I went out driving with my dad, way back in September last year, (actually it wasn't last year it was 2002, I forgot it was January now!) I tried to turn a corner that was far too sharp and ended up in the hedge...I was mortified!

2. A week later I hit a curb in my driving lesson and burst the tyre...oh, the shame, it was in the middle of town!

3. In about October last year I hit a skip that was on the side of the road cos I was fiddling with the heating instead of watching where I was going properly, talk about stupid! I smashed my left wing mirror up, but the worst thing was it was only about twenty yards down the road from my house and my mum saw!

Having said that, I passed in May with 14 minors, so I know I'm not particularly good at driving but I really should be more careful!

Ahh, actually I have mounted a curb before, I had one hand on the wheel, and one hand punching my friend in the back, went round this roundabout at about 40, climbed the curb and dropped back down! But Id much rather hit the curb than another car

I've had tons of near misses there are so many idiots out there its unbelievable. The other day when i was driving some boy and girl were trying to cross the dual carriageway. The pulled her out right in front of me and she fell over in my lane. i only just missed her by inches it really freaked me out if I had been going any faster I'm sure I wouldnt have been able to stop in time. Pedestrians can be nightmares sometimes.
I havent had an accident yet though touch wood.
Too many to count, I need to get a slower car next time lol.

Yeh, you would think that having only passed my test a month ago Id be the bigger danger, but there are so many absolute retards on the roads, and pedestrians are really irritating, especially when they stand next to a zebra crossing, but dont cross, and when people pushing wheelbarrows want to cross the road, and stick half of it IN the road ready to cross...

I've been passed a year and I would say I'm a sensible driver a lot of people I know arent. i'm appalled at the amount of people I know that drink and drive I wont even drive if I've had a half no way. I know someone who I'm pretty sure drives without a license and that is so dangerous its unbelievable I just wish people would be more careful. A car is a powerful weapon if it isnt used correctly.

About a year ago I was waiting at a crossing to cross the road and it had turned green so I could cross, I started to go got halfway across and then this car came straight though the red light nearly hitting me. He was busy fiddling with his radio and it wasnt until he went passed me (could have been something to do with the swearwords that I shouted at him) that he realised what he had done his attention wasnt on the road at all. he actually parked further up and came to me and apologised and said that it had really shocked him because he thought he was a good driver. Moral of the story dont take your eyes off the road when you are driving if it had been someone with bad mobility crossing not me they wouldnt have been able to get out of the way in time.

Interesting thought (though not my own). Why is it called a "near miss" Surely it should be a "near hit"

I almost drove into a funeral procession

It was on a roundabout, and i had priority as i was on the right, as i was pulling out on to the roundabout this hearse just decided to cut me up and i had to stop. It would have been quite funny to give them a wake-up call.

Yeh, Ive never thought of that before.

Also, im always taking my eyes off the road, Im trying to stop, but when you see people walking down the road, you look at them, to see if you know them and stuff :/

When I had driving lessons I wouldn't even drive with cafine in my system or if I was drinking the night before. I found my mood effecting my driving style so badly, if I was in a bad mood I would be quite edgy and nurvous the clutch would go up and down like a yoyo because I was so nervous. I find out the pass rate was 17% for males in my area, coupled with the fact I can't afford a car or the insurance I gave up. If I ever need to drive I shall take lessons then but atm the moment the buses take me every where I need to go.

Where did you get that pass rate from?
Theres a website somewhere with official passrates on and I'm sure no are for male or female had less than a 25% pass rate.

Id been out the night before, got totally smashed, was woke up by my driving instructor beeping the horn, fell out of bed, got dressed, went into the car, literally half asleep and still abit drunk from the night before, I almost ran over a pedestrian crossing a zebra, as I was concentrating on the car infront rather than anything else, thats happened to me twice before..

I've had 2 near misses in more than a year of driving.

One was when I tried to overtake a car and it suddenly braked and i had to swerve around to miss it.

Another was when I had been wiating at a busy roundabout for about 5 mins trying to edge myself into the flow but no one was giving way so I accelerated right into the midst of all the cars and made it through. I think I caused someone to crash. Not my problem, they didn't my plates, I was out of there before they could see me.
