I will be moving back to England at the end of the Summer with my girlfriend. I will do an open uni course and she will be starting a masters degree as an international student (I am a British national).

Since I was a kid last time I lived in the UK, I'm out of the loop when it comes to cost of acommodation and areas to avoid in specific locations. I've looked on gumtree.com for an idea and they all seem pretty similar in terms of price scope, but I am unsure if some of the places I found that looked good are only affordable because they're in a hell hole surrounded by nasties, or if it's just because that city is considerably cheaper.

So, I would like to ask if anyone could possibly re-shuffle the following locations we have on our list in order of:

    1. Acommodation affordabilty and THEN:

    2. In order of desireability - i.e. Cities where it is hardest to find acommodation in a place not ridden with chavs, for an affordable price (300 - 400 pounds per month) and vice versa:

    1. Edinburgh
    2. Durham
    3. York
    4. Nottingham
    5. Cambridge
    6. Oxford
    7. Brighton

    Thanks in advance!

This site shows crime figures by area. I think just general research into what cities are like is your best hope - it would be hard for anyone on here to know what each of those places is like :dontknow:
