Is it your first viewing? I'm waiting on the special edition DVD (for the measly sum of £2.93), fantastic film.

Has anyone heard of Margaret? It was directed by Kenneth Lonergan, stars Anna Paquin, Matt Damon, Matthew Broderick and Mark Ruffalo, finished production about six years ago, and is just being released in a limited fashion. The few critics who have seen it are saying it's incredible, but there's some trouble with the Studio (Fox), and they're not giving it much publicity or promotion at all. There's a more detailed report of the whole thing here.

It's showing at a cinema (Odeon - grumble grumble, can't win them all) about ten minutes from my house. Just bought a ticket!
Ended up not going to this but I was hoping it'd be showing at Hyde Park Picture House soon, and it is! Definitely going

Surprisingly low score for The Iron Lady on RT.com, but I'm wondering whether it's the actual subject matter that is dividing opinion rather than the film-making and performances. I thought the trailer looked amazing.

First moive-viewing of 2012: Puss in Boots. Apart from a couple of sequences, I wasn't too impressed, tbh. :indiff:

On a brighter note, I saw a poster for The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo outside the theatre, so I'm getting hyped over that.

Finally got around to watching Submarine. Avoided it at first because the words 'coming-of-age drama' tend to make me recoil from a film in horror and disgust. Was pleasantly surprised. Think any reformed, awkward teenage narcissist can relate to the main character and his terrible, terrible trains of thought.

Submarine was my joint film-of-the-year tbh. With Tree of Life.

Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol would have been a better film if...

    Spoiler:
    Show
...the story regarding Julia's 'death' was true.

Apart from that, Brad Bird did a pretty good job.

Seriously? That really didn't sit well with me. I mean, MI3 was largely about Ethan rescuing Julia, so it's a bit of a kick in the teeth if that was all a huge waste of time and she dies off-screen. Having her dead felt like a cop out to avoid involving her in the story.

Did you not like Drive very much? :holmes:

Also, has anyone seen Contagion? I might be watching that today.

Despite the A-list actors, Contagion is horrible. 4/10 for me, but give it a shot, perhaps you may like it.

Well they did cop out by 'suddenly' realising she wouldn't be safe if she was with him and thus excluding her for 99% of the film.

I think the reason I wanted it that way was because Brandt's story and revelation about the couple was one of the powerful moments in the film. To disregard that by saying it was all a cover up so as to give the film a 'happy' ending diluted that revelation. Maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing in Mission Impossible. It's always been an over the top franchise with a low degree, if any, of emotional/negative plot points. It's certainly not Casino Royale and I think I might have subconsciously wanted it to go in that direction.
