Ew, that film just looks wrong. What made you watch it in the first place?

I watched Taxidermia last night. I have never seen such a freakishly weird film! I cannot, for the life of me, figure it out!
Is it really disturbing? I'm scared to watch it by myself :afraid:

Just watched Only God Forgives with Gosling in it. I really liked it, really weird film, very little talking, some amazing visuals with the setting and the lighting though. Probably going to be a very niche market film, as evidenced by it being on netflix even though it only came out midway through the year.

The cinematography in this film is just astonishing. :coma: I respect Winding-Refn for making a film like this right after Drive, tbh: it would have been such an easy path into something more accessible and commercial.

Watched Blow Up for the first time today, and loved it.

That's a rather odd question to be asking in a film fanatics thread, surely?

Yes. Agree on both counts. I loved OGF and I am also a long-standing fan of Blow Up

Sounds like such a bizarre film...Is it worth watching? The wiki plot summary makes it sound quite disgusting

It is disgusting. I wouldn't waste your time on it. It's competently made, but I was left thinking "why?"

I shall probably skip it then. Likewise with "Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom" and "A Serbian Film" - I'm curious but know they'll be very...horrible.

Salo is certainly very horrible. You'll never look at Nutella the same way again!

 Yeah I read about that part. I've got a pretty strong stomach but it certainly doesn't make a film sound appealing.

Read the plot on Wikipedia. Do not watch this.

Yeah, I read the plot too - it seems very disturbing. I'm just not sure why someone would make a film of that nature. I think a friend tried to watch it once but said they couldn't get through it.

To be fair, Salo does at least have an artistic purpose and is well made. I haven't seen A Serbian Film, but it sounds like expoloitative crap riding on the back of the torture porn bandwagon.

Salo is far more jutifiable than the Saw franchise, which I dare say a lot of people on TSR did watch.

Yeah, I see what you mean. But I personally never felt disgusted when watching Saw. Yet reading the synopsis of Salo alone made me feel a bit grossed out. Might look into it one day. Don't think I'd ever watch A Serbian Film.

I don't want to sound mean, but why would you watch Saw? It's beyond me. It's just sleazy "entertainment" without any redeeming features that was cynically marketed towards a teen audience.

Pier Paolo Pasolini is in an entirely different league, and yet you hesitate...

It's a guilty pleasure Like trashy shows such as Geordie Shore, I don't openly admit that I...somewhat...enjoy them :ninja:

Yes this is true  I suppose it's because the nature is different. E.g I can handle the typical violence of horror films but when it comes to things like rape and coprophagia, I do get a little uneasy.

Well that's an honest answer, certainly. I guess it's not neat and tidy is it?

You write that 2/3 is made up of politics, doesn't that ruin the film though? I mean not that it makes it a bad movie, but that watching a great action film is what people (or at least I) are looking forward to.
