I wonder what Ebert will give it (Thor)... just waiting to see what score he gives to new, big releases is almost a whole tradition now, he gives out half stars / 5, you can't even do that xD

Has anyone actually watched 'Your Highness' btw
Roger Ebert only uses a four-star rating system.

I definitely think they should have better villains. I liked the classic villains, but they wouldn't entirely fit in with the new Bond. And these more 'realistic' villains leave something to be desired. Bourne, for example, makes use of equally skilled assassins. Bond doesn't really have anybody.

Oh yeah, the woman, cars and locations are integral. Gadgets would perhaps add a certain degree of cheese, and when they are used to escape from the most ridiculous situation - and they happen to be the perfect solution. Aren't they adding gadgets to the next film? Wonder how that will turn out. Explosive toothpaste. :awesome:
Really?! It will be verrrry interesting to that pans out. I like Sam Mendes and think he'll have a decent crack at it. I don't see him being too ridiculous with the gadgets (exploding toothpaste sounds cool though ) either. There is something missing from the recent villains, like the guy who was some poker whizz. Whilst I adore Casino Royale, he could have been a bit more interesting. A little more depth.

We will never forget a bit of:

By the way - any rumours about the new Bond film? Last I checked they had confirmed they were going to make it again. So I'm well behind on any gossip

I caught an interview with him on TED the other day. I had no idea he lost his lower jaw to cancer. The poor guy

What a voice that man has.

Anyone excited by Thor? Kenneth Branagh as directed it, I hope it isn't disappointing!

I'm not really interested in the character, but the pre-eminent living Shakespearean actor directing a ridiculous superhero film is really too good to pass up. :awesome:

Today, I watched The Thing with Kurt Russel. Anybody else a fan of this horror flick?

They're releasing a prequel to it later this year.

I watched the two Thor trailers, and tbh, they didn't leave me feeling very excited. :indiff:

Anyway, I quite enjoyed Burn After Reading. It was mostly funny, albeit a bit over the top at points. John Malkovich flitted between very good and very bad, Pitt was pretty good throughout, and I thought Richard Jenkins was quite all right too; I didn't really feel any of the other performances were that noteworthy. I can't really get beyond the acting, though: I was much too tired.

I watched the Eagle yesterday. Sword and sandal epics are a guilty pleasure of mine tbh and I was disappointed that I didn't get many epic battle scenes. I didn't have high expectations going into this film as Channing Tatum was in the lead role but he was okay, the film itself was just okay imo, had a lot of potential though and could have been a lot better.

Anybody considering watching Hanna? Not been talked about much in this thread. It looks good.

Have you watched Centurion? How does it compare to Centurion? They look like similar films.

That's the guy that came to mind when I said classic villains. He was awesome. I liked, from Casino Royale, that it didn't necessarily come down to a 'face off' with the final villain. It felt more realistic with him being tied up and tortured, him helpless and then villain being finished off by someone else. That got spoiled somewhat in Quantum of Solace. Quantum, in general, was a bit of a mess. Fell short of the standard set by Casino Royale. So I'm hoping Bond 23 is a step up. I heard it was going to be like a trilogy, with the Quantum arc being resolved in Bond 23. I couldn't tell you much other than what is out there on the internet. Not been keeping up to date with the news, other than when the company ran into financial problems, but it seems to be on track and stable now.

Yeah I have, Centurion was probably a bit better, they are fairly similar.

I watched Mindhunters today as well, enjoyed that.

Will most likely give it a go because I'm a Cate Blanchett fan, not the kind of film I usually watch.

Reminds me a bit of Salt (but looks much better), which made me want to rip my own eyeballs out. :ninja:

Indeed, much much better. Salt wasn't that bad. Ridiculous, over the top nonsense I admit. :awesome:

And it's the first film since Sucker Punch to have a young female lead so it will be interesting to see how it compares.

Anyone who chanced upon my collection of films pertaining to gangs, or - indeed - even spoke to me for more than about ten minutes about films (and, thus, realised how much I enjoy gang-related films) would probably deem me to be the teeny-tiniest bit obsessed.

I probably shouldn't need to watch anymore. But I am. Right now. Tsotsi. Looks damned good, too. I'll be back here later to give you all an unnecessarily detailed report - almost verging on a review. I could just put it in the review thread, but I'm really quite enjoying the fact that it's just Phalanges posting to himself in there at the minute.
