Is there such thing as an opposite of adjancency pairs? I want to describe when Scrooge keeps replying ''Good afternoon'' to his nephew in Stave One of 'A Christmas Carol' when he is aking him 'why cannot we be friends?' and such.

Adjancency pairs are a sequence of two related utterances by two different speakers. The second utterance is always the response to the first, but in here it is the opposite as the response does not have anything to do with the question.
Is there a word to describe this?

I've heard them called dispreferred responses or dispreferred second parts and this site seems to back that up.

Thanks so much! That is really useful, I couldn't find it on the interrnet anywhere.
