    Hey,

So i am going to be applying for accommodation and I am in a pickle. From what I have read, the cheaper halls are disgusting with mould and lots of food stealing, but many people have a very social time due to the number of people while in constant interaction, while people in the better halls have no problems, however are sometimes cut off due to less interaction between the rooms.

I will be hoping to join the rugby team and a few other societies so as to not be stuck in my room all day anyway, so maybe the social side will not be too bad, but if i dot make the team and cant find any societies, will I feel cut off in the better rooms?

    Thanks.

When I was there for the visit day I think it was 16 per kitchen. Each kitchen had two sets of stuff so 8 per hall-ish.

Not entirely sure though xD And did they send something about applying for accomodation or do you need to go to their site? I should get it done myself!

I was in Hawthorns in my first year and in our block it was 25 to a Kitchen the kitchen had 3 ovens and 4 fridge/freezers and 1 sink but Hawthorns is where most 1st years are so you get to meet lots of people and socialise especially in the first few weeks.

Lindsay Court has two fridges (smaller) and 2 freezers (smaller) for about 16 people, benches to sit and 2 ovens. Providing you set up some sort of guide for who's in where you usually don't have issues. However, being told that the premier ensuite people don't interact this is not true. The induction cookers can often be set off by the less savvy cooks so you will probs meet loads of people at the fire alarm which can happen almost weekly. (I've got used to it been at the court for my first two years and will be again for my final year). There's also the Lindsay Bar near by which means many people can come to socialise in the end like any halls, its up to you how you make yourself noticed. I suggest on your first day opening your door a fraction and then you can say hello to people as they pass and get to know people, cookies/sweets also work. I also made a lot of friends on the facebook groups, yougofurther and here.

Lindsay court is 8 people per kitchen is it not?

& I wouldn't worry about not being able to make friends. Keele is very friendly and the weekly events will help you mingle with the other people from Keele including 1st, 2nd and 3rd years. I'll be going into my 3rd year and I'm going to be living in Lindsay Court so if you're planning on living there, I'll happily open my door to you.

If it isn't your first year, I'm sure you've already made friends anyway? Plus, everyone is always up for making new friends, so just throw a smile here and there and you're sure to be in the mix of all the fun and games.

How would having a more expensive room stop food stealing?

Presume (s)he thinks that a more expensive room means nicer people - unfortunately this is not always the case .

Although can understand where they are coming from ...

Not at all, It was because people on here have said that it only happens in the cheaper halls, not the more expensive ones. Dicks are dicks - regardless of wealth.

its 8 per cooking unit and 16 per kitchen. Once you iron out all the bumps of it. So still pretty small.

since when? Those kitchens are too small enough for 4 let alone 8 even now that they've renovated them.

Stereotypical? Food stealing isn't about the place, its about the people, and Im so glad I ended up in Hawthorns, literally had the best time of my life there with my block mates! - plus when it comes down to money, its a no-brainer to save your student loan and go for a non-ensuite!

Well respectfully, I think that housekeeper was lying or you misinterpreted it. I was in Lindsay Court 08-09, and my friend the year after and it was 4 to a kitchen and 8 to a dining room then and I suspect now as they won't have renovated it so soon after doing it when I was there.

Yup, you get 2 little kitchens on either side of the dining room and 4 ppl share each (the little kitchen) and then dining area for 8 heads.
