An experiment that's done to see if the results would have happened anyway, not because of what you did.

e.g if your testing the effect of tempature on ice and you increase the tempature to like 30c.

is it because of the tempature the ice melted? so you'd do a control where you leave the ice at a tempature other then 30c to see if it melts on it's own.

Its like doing the same experiment but with all the conditions, values, etc... at 'normal' (original) conditions.

At normal conditions/values, so that you can compare with your actual experiment, to see how different it is.

    Hope that helps.

It's like when you divide a petri dish into 4 and don't put anything in 1 quater. That one quater would be the control.

Its an experiment where nothing is changed. It's set up with the same conditions as the other experiments, but nothing is done to it.

For example, if you were measuring whether heat made sugar dissolve faster in water, the control experiment would contain water and sugar, but it wouldn't be heated.

    I hope that helps!
