    Anyone else hate calculating uncertainties in physics? We have all these stupid formulae about if the uncertainty in x is deltax, the uncertainty in x^2 is 2deltax/x, and they are irrational and pointless. And physics has nice mathematically derived formulae you could use instead of all this experiment nonsense anyway. And I have a homework exercise on them due tomorrow.

    EDIT: If anyone is interested in seeing exactly what I'm complaining about, look at this stupid 50-page document. Do you have things this pointless in England?

    Good joke. Is the like a number theory specialist saying they don't study soft core subjects when a colleague says they study *insert more applied maths field here*? :p:

    I know your pain, uncertainties were the bane of my A-level physics years. Especially as there were two options for our practical paper, and the rules for working out uncertainties changed depending on which paper you did :rolleyes:

    Cool, they have that things when you roll 6 you re-spawn the dead. But Imo Chaos was the beast of the lot, they looked the best too. Necron guns ftw.

    Number theorist... hmm... Is there anyone self-studying number theory here? I think it's not covered even in Further Maths syllabus?

    Me! But pretty basic stuff, like Euclids theorems on prime factors and stuff.

    Nice! I have photocopied a book on elementary number theory few months ago, but have yet to start learning it. Just some simple basic stuffs like Fibonacci numbers, Euclidean Algorithm etc.

    Thing I find hardest thought is understanding the notation. -_-

    I am. Did Euclid's algorithm and modular arithmetic a while back. I have a neat book for undergraduate mathematics on number theory and other resources to investigate the prime number theorem and the Riemann zeta function (plus other arithmetical functions). ATM trying to formulate a general solution to s=2n for the Riemann zeta function (I know it already exists but I'm trying to discover it myself).

    Oh, I've got Elementary of Number Theory and its Application by Kenneth H. Rosen. yeah true, since those notations are still new to us.

    I did modular arithmetic too few months back, and find it very interesting. From there slowly, it will lead you to Chinese Remainder Theorem and something along that line.

    Prime number theorem sounds interesting too. I've heard of Riemann zeta function, but unsure about what is it exactly though.

    Prime number theorem is pretty cool, shows how primes are infinite and stuff like that. Riemann Zeta function is meant to be legendary, the cornerstone for thousands of theorems. I'd give an arm and an eye to be able to prove that. Be among the greatest ever.
