1. If you're asked to find the gradient at a particular point on a straight line graph, where do you draw the triangle? Do you draw it so that both of its intersections with the graph are equidistant from the point or do you start drawing the trianlge exactly from the point?

It doesn't really matter. If it's a straight line graph the gradient is the same everywhere and anywhere on the line. You can draw the triangle wherever - it doesn't necessarily even have to be on the point it self.
3. Doesnt matter where you draw it if its on a straight line
But i have always been told to draw a big triangle. The bigger the triangle the greater the accuracy

I don't think you will be asked in a maths exam to do this BUT if you were then you draw ,by eye, the tangent at the point. Then make the triangle convenient to measure the lengths of the required sides.

If the straight line graph has been obtained after plotting a set of values (obtained by an experiment), then it is suggested that the 'triangle' should cover at least 1/3 of the line...Doesn't matter where you start the triangle from. Oh and none of the points you use to calculate the gradient should be from the set of values.

In any other situation...Doesn't matter!
