PCR AND BAC's? Think we could splurge over to 10 marks for that :P

I know some mnemonics have already been posted on here, but just in case this one works better for anyone, it's for remembering the order of the class systems:
    Kinky - Kingdom
    Paula - Phylum
    Came - Class
    Over - Order
    For - Family
    Great - Genus
    Sex - Species

what are the advantages and disadvantages of somatic gene therapy?
    advantages;
1.alteration of gene is not passed onto offspring
    (i dont know anymore)

    disadvantages however;
1.techniques are required to get the gene into the target cell
    2. treatment is shortlived-needs to be repeated regularly

    (improve or add everyone! )

    gene therapy
    advantages
1.alteration of gene is not passed onto offspring
    2. helps relieve the symptoms of a disease

    disadvantages
1.techniques are required to get the gene into the target cell, this is difficult - been tried with viruses and liposomes, neither of which were very efficient
    2. treatment is shortlived-needs to be repeated regularly
    3. only affects one person

What is the meaning of life?

Also what do the five plant hormones do? e.g auxins gibberelins
the meaning of life right about now is to do well in F215.

2.Auxin-cell elongation, inhibits abscission, inhibits side shoots growth
    Ethene- ripening of fruits
    Gibberellins-seed germination and stem growth
    Cytokinins-promote cell DIVISION
Abscisic acid-stomatal closure wehn plant under stress and inhibits seed germination&stem growth (most evil of them all)

explain the meaning of the genetic code
1.triplet code: 3 bases code for 1 amino acid
2.degenerate: amino acids have more than one code (except methionine)
3.some codes are stop and start of polypeptide chain
    4.widespread

Agreed..without at least 5 hours sleep you won't function properly...even then you'd need alot of energy drinks and pro plus to remain alert...

Focus on Cellular Control especially so...probably will be worth half the marks, with Biotechnology featuring about a fifth of the marks, since they're unlikely to repeat the predominantely Biotech orientated questions in Jan11. Responding to the Environment and the Ecosystems Populations is usually about a third of the paper as well.

Yes they are linked. When they say BACs are then automated (Point 2 on page 167 Heinemann book.) - they really mean interrupted PCR and electrophoresis.
