I'm not too sure, but I think they get re-marked by the Head of Department, then a sample gets sent off to the exam board to be moderated (that's what happens with the other subjects anyway, so I can't see how English could be any different).

Yeah, I think that's what happens- they get internally moderated by other teachers, then when the marks are sent off to the exam board, you also have to send off some coursework so they can check the marking is accurte. I think they usually take a few of the top students, a few in the middle and a few at the bottom, but I'm not sure.

Well, if all of them were sent for moderation it will be pretty difficult for the exam board to check millions of coursework, would it not? In my school, the Head of Dept remarks them and then some gets chosen to be sent off.

the grades are sent off and the exam board send back a list of people whos cw they want to see for each peice of cw - technically you dont need to hand write a peice of English cw, you can cross your fingers and hope your works not called up not a good idea a friend of mine had to miss a night out to sit and hand write his story

Even at A-level, they're not all sent off, unless you have a small class. There were 17 of us in my AS English lit class and they only requested coursework from some of us- a few with top grades, a few in the middle and a few with low grades.

Usually your teacher marks your coursework according to the mark scheme provided by the exam board. If there are miore than one teaching the same course then they will swap pieces of work to ensure that all the marking is at the same standard. Around the beginning of May, they will send the marks off to the exam board who will select samples - usually the top, bottom and a few middle pieces are sent.
