Regret outside course choices, now I need to study for two subjects I don't like... watch

Okay in Scottish universities the degree is 4 years, an MA, and for the first two years one must do outside courses alongside your chosen subject.

Now I love my degree, Italian, but my outside courses I loathe, history of art and ancient Rome. I exaggerate slightly, I love sitting in the lectures sometimes, but the essay writing I find a struggle. The exams will also be a major struggle and I'm just wishing my life away here.

Next year it will be better as I'll be doing french as an outside course and probably trying to play to my strengths for the third subject... But how do I get through history subjects? I'm not used to writing the essays, I need to at least pass though I'd be much happier with myself, for obvious reasons, if I were to get 2.1 or a first.

How do I handle revision? I hate history so much right now, which is a shame as I enjoy it in leisure sized chunks but these courses are too hardcore for me.
