Do many businesses have jobs for student? And are any near to Uni?

What's the competition like? If there's a job opening near the Uni, surely there'll be a lot of people applying.

Do Unis help you find a part time job?

    Thank you! :]

It can be particularly difficult to find a job at uni, especially if there is more than one university in that city.

Businesses don't specifically reserve certain roles for students, and many are reluctant to take them on due to unreliability and knowing that uni work may always come first.

Your university will probably have jobs going in the SUB, shop, canteen, and some student ambassadors are paid too. These are the only kinds of jobs your uni will probably advertise, as they will be more flexible around lectures and won't promote jobs that could affect your attendance/performance.

In this climate? Pretty damn hard. Even summer jobs. Unless, of course, you've got three pages worth of previous retail experience in which case it's relatively easy.

For example, I applied for Halifax over the summer - apparently I was fine with everything, but they said that because I claimed I was "taking a gap year" and I was looking for part time work, they wouldn't take me.

Careers centre will definitely help, or a local job agency.

I have three in term time, and a couple in holidays. It's not difficult at all, just go to your careers centre to fix up your CV, and write appropriate covering letters.

    Good luck!

I'd say its easier if you're going to a uni locally, as lots of places would want someone who can work all year, not just term time.
