Thames Valley University!!!

Hey I was thinking about maybe applying there for 2006 entry as there's very limited universities in London that offer my course. But is this uni actually any good? I've found this website really helpful for giving me background knowledge of uni's so id be greatful for any info. It reminds me of another London Met, please correct me im wrong.

When I was applying, Thames Valley was the joke university. It was the one you'd name if you wanted to talk about the worst university possible. I wouldn't recommend it, to be honest.

What about universities outside of London which offer your course?

I am not in the UK, so my comments with large piles of sodium chloride

1. " In 1997, the university was threatened by the Quality Assurance Agency with closure, as its quality standards became eroded and students were able to progress without resits or examinations taking place. This crisis led to a complete overhall of the quality of provision at the university, and in 1998 the QAA stepped in..."

2. It may be more Met-like than the Met.
The Times rates it as 100th out of 100 universities.
For comparision, the London Met was rated 98th before they refused the Times permission to list them.

3. It has the worst staff-student ratio in Britain

Same here...with the difference that it's *still* the joke uni (but maybe Luton took over now...)

What do you want to study? What are your grades? Any chance of a university close to London who offer the course?

I think its officially the worse University in Briton. I am not in position to really comment though, since I've never seen nor been there, and I dont want to discredit anyone who/went goes there. I suppose its the same then every other place, if you put all your effort in you should be able to get grade. What tends to happen though is quite a few students who go there arent to bothered about learning and just ruin it for everyone.
It's pretty local to my home.
I wouldn't recommend it. What's your course?

i think its really cr*p i live nearby it too, and unless you want to do like evening classes there which dont mean that much to your future career i wouldnt go there.. apparently they have like an over 99% drop-out rate? i'm not sure if they still do, but one of my friends took about 4 different courses there and dropped out of the first 3..

I thought the drop out rate was more like 30-40%. I think TVU is more of a college really, I think half their courses are in fact FE ones. It seems to be popular with businesses in the area and they often send their staff to TVU for training.

TVU don't have any halls of residences as far as I am aware so its not a university geared up for the 18-25 full time student market. I think TVU has its place, but its not for the full time student who wants to live out.

I was in a position where if I did not get offers from Salford or MMU (I only applied to Greater Manchester universities) I would not bother going to Bolton as it would not have been worth it. I think TVU is in that league.

I thought TVU was in Slough or something? (i.e the worst town in Britain)
47,000 students? Amazing. I'll leave to your imagination which particular simile is crossing my mind.

Complete the sentence: "Students are to Thames Valley what..."

I kid because I care.

Yeah I was about to say that it's in Slough, not London. I'd hardly call Slough "the worst town in Britain" though.

Wow so many comments! Thanks for all the info I really appreciate it.

For those who asked I want to study Digital Media or something very similar like Multimedia Technology. I know it seems like ALL uni's do that but i'm having difficulty choosing my final six and It CAN NOT be outside of London for health reasons. :frown:
It has two campuses, one in Slough and one in Ealing Broadway
