harvard isnt good with engineering lol.

for the UK I would say Imperial is the best.

US has a lot more - MIT, Caltech, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Princeton are all good with engineering and technology.

If you go a little down then schools like:

UK: Bristol, Manchester and Warwick I think are good
US: Michigan, Purdue, Texas at Austin, Georgia tech are good

Actually UCL is pretty bad with engineering

Really good for many humanities and medicine though

All about Imperial. For some courses, UCL/Imperial are seen as better than Oxbridge. Talking to the CEO of Chemring Group (FTSE 250), he would rather employ a UCL graduate than a Cambridge graduate.

    Erm...Imperial :p:

UCL' isn't particularly strong in engineering and I don't really think it deserves to be named as a shining examplar in the sciences than a number of others tbf and this is the problem.

In the UK, with the obvious exception of Imperial, I don't think any university is known for immense strength across the sciences. Most Russell and 1994 Group universities offer significant strength across the sciences, but this doesn't mean to say that one or two science departments aren't more modest departments. Such is always the case with multi-faculty universities.

Durham, for example, has excellent chemistry and physics departments and is one of the major centres for astrophysics in the world. However, it doesn't have its own medical school and, in engineering, is good but no better than Bath or Loughborough, or example.

For medicine and dentistry universities Newcastle is known worlwide, but has reasonable (though certainly not poor) biology and physics departments.

It's about the course and what you get out of it, what the lecturers are like. No schools going to to be the best all round no matter what Oxbridge thinks.

The uni is not a launchpad to a higher level in life. It's a ladder you have to climb.

Imperial, and the Russell Group unis are generally solid across the board.
