I live with my partner (not married) and have been for 2 years now. We are financially independant from our parents, and both in the second year of University. I was under the impression that you are unfortunately not regarded as being independent unless you are married, over the age of 25, or have been self-financing for three years.

However, when I put my details into the calculator in application for 2011/12, the 'living with partner' option allowed me to recieve a grant which I would not normally be eligible for, due to my parental income. Is this just an error or am I missing something? I have read on some pages that they do recognise co-habiting, but not all sources agree.

    Any thoughts?

    It is wrong.
You will be assessed as you were last year.
