    Hi

Going for an interview very soon. The upper limit of the salary is the minimum I need. Here is the thing, I have already got another job offer and another interview in line. Should I tell them I have already got a job offer and my be negotiate a bit upping of the salary? Is it a good idea to tell them about a job offer? What would the best way to get the max salary offer obviously within their limits? Cheers.

TBH, this really does depend upon who you will be working for...If it is a public sector then quite often the advertised are the range within the grading band and you will only move through these with time/experience! If it is privite sector then you normally have a little more negotiating power.

There are however, things you need to take into consideration...the most important of which is your experience in the role this is your best negotiation tool as you can sell the benefits to them and help them see how they are going to offset the increased cost of hiring you vs hiring someone with lesser experience.

Telling them about your other job offer is entirely personal choice and can be used but again it depends on competition for type of job you are applying for and the egernessthe company has for getting you into that position... All you can do is ask!

Good luck let us know how it goes.

    I personally wouldn't.

If I was the interviewer, personally, I'd see it as a weapon you're using to get the better of me & the company. Kind of like, you walked in expecting the job to be yours straight away.

Whilst you've got good intentions, try and beef up the salary in other areas - say you've got a lot more experience than other potential candidates perhaps?

It would be a very strange employer that discussed salary details at interview. Salary negotiations don't happen until you are made an offer.
