    Hey,

Just started on the Pill (Dianette). I took the first pill on the first day of my period. Is it safe to have sex now without using a condom? I'm a bit worried about him ejaculating inside me with no barrier protection!

You should be fully protected from the 7th day with most pills, though I am not sure about Dianette specifically. Check the info leaflet that should have come with the pills, it should tell you this.

My top tip for being really safe:

Take the pill, get your man to wear a condom, put spermicide everywhere round the house, and then practice strict abstinence.

    Thank me later.

I take Dianette (for my acne); I thought I read somewhere that it's not quite as good as other pills? You definitely need to read through the little booklet/leaflet that came with it.

That said, it definitely doesn't hurt to use condoms as well. Is there any reason you don't want to use them? Fetherlite or some other "thin" type of condom aren't even noticeable... I know I'm a super paranoid person but I'd definitely never go without both.

Hey - i'm on Dianette and have the leaflet in front of me. It is just as good as any other pills for providing 'effective contraception' but helps your acne too.
It says - 'take your first tablet on the first day of your period... after taking your first pill, take one pill each day, following the directions arrows, until you have finished all 21 pills in the pack... by starting in this way you will have contraceptive protection at once'
Also shows a diagram saying 'take the first pill on the first day of your period... you will be protected at once'
However, if it was me.. to make sure i'd use condoms for the first 7 days of taking the pill, just incase.

If I were you I'd still use condoms just to be sure! If you're wondering phone your GP they should be able to tell you!

Use condoms. Dianette is like every other pill (although for some reason my doctor said you generally stop taking it after one year as its a 'high dose' - I took it for acne). You need to finish one pack (21 days) before you are fully protected.

This is incorrect. The majority of, if not all, combined pills (including Microgynon 30, Dianette, Yasmin and others) are effective immediately if you begin taking it on the first day of your period, or after 7 days if you start at any other time.

It is best to take your first Dianette pill on the first day of your next period. By starting in this way, you will have contraceptive protection with your first pill.
    - from the info leaflet here.
