Talking of that, when did weird beams of light and black bars start to become the norm. Obviously some situations would not be workable, but good ol' censor steam seems to have vanished :teehee:

Oh and I was just wondering...is it just me or since around the release of Queen's blade anime seems to have been far more risqué, with more fanservice anime seemingly having a lot more pervy stuff then older shows, at times bordering on pornographic? Just seems a bit odd to compare Love Hina or Negima or Tenchi Muyo to say Ladies vs Butlers or Queen's blade or that Manyuu show I've seen mentioned.

Nowadays Ikkitousen seems pretty tame compared to some of the things being produced each season :teehee:
think it was queens blade which started all this :s:

First time I saw that kind of OTT censorship was in the first ep of Nogisaka Haruka no Himitsu Purezza in late 2009; even if that wasn't the first anime to use it, it seems to have become increasingly common since then. :dontknow:

I'm guessing that since TV censorship has been getting increasingly strict in recent years, the creators are no longer worried about how far they push the ecchi barrier. :giggle: "If even panty shots are censored, why bother giving characters underwear to begin with?" seems to be the mind set. :p: The TV airings are becoming glorified adverts for the uncensored BD/DVDs.

Starting watching Usagi drop today (finally started the new season)

Wondering two things, that I've noticed elsewhere in other anime and was curious about:

    1) Are beds that we're use to uncommon in Japan? Sometimes characters have "normal" beds, and other times they're sleeping on those things on the floor (futons?)
It's dependant on their living circumstances. Futons are typically used in accommodation that isn't particularly large as to make use of the space when they're not sleeping. Comparatively, inline with much of Asia, homes in Japan can be noticeably small on the lower end of the property market (granted, not to the extent of somewhere like Hong Kong), and certainly in comparison with the west.

    2) I've also noticed that rooms/houses can quite often be pretty sparse in terms of decorations/furniture etc. Is that just because it's cheaper to animate, or is the clutter I'm use to in homes not common in Japan?

Might need help from Aiko here :teehee:
A combination of both. In the case of Usagi Drop, Daikichi lives in basic accommodation as to reflect his financial disposition. That and unnecessary furniture will only lead to less space, which as mentioned is definitely an issue for most. Living with the bare necessities is therefore desired.

Christmas episode in Yuru Yuri... it's still August! :hmmm: I found it amusing though when one character walked in wearing a santa costume a week before Christmas, and the others made fun of her for dressing up too early. :giggle: I realize Christmas isn't as big in Japan, but I wish someone would do that to the shops in the UK... obviously decorating the week before is fine, but anytime before December is silly. :p:

[EDIT] More news on the previously announced new Kenshin anime project:

(Original post by New Rurouni Kenshin to Be 2-Part Shin Kyoto Video Anime)

The production company Aniplex confirmed on Saturday that the previously announced new Rurouni Kenshin anime series will be a two-part Shin Kyoto-Hen (New Kyoto Arc) original video anime series. The first part will play in Japanese theaters in December.

The new anime series will remake the Kyoto story arc of Nobuhiro Watsuki's original manga and the previous anime adaptation. Director Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Studio DEEN are returning to animate the new series along with musical composer Noriyuki Asakura. Mari Okada (AnoHana, Wandering Son) is writing the scripts this time. Hiromitsu Hagiwara (Saint Beast ~Ikusen no Hiru to Yoru Hen~) is the new character designer, and Hiro Kaburaki (Kimi ni Todoke) will take over as the episode director. The cast will remain the same except for the role of Hajime Saitō, who will be played by Ken Narita.
Nothing new then, but I'm not complaining. The Kyoto arc was definitely the best part of the TV series, and it would be nice to see it again with shiny new animation.

    Spoiler:
    Show
Nagi, why oh why did it have to be Nagi, after all that searching that Negi did!!!!?????!!!!
And Asuna, come on she has to be in love with Negi after that, she has to.
Seems a bit final as a chapter to me, as if the manga is about to end, please don't let it end!!

Started watching R-15, too funny, I like the concept of each character having their own genius attribute, seems really entertaining to me, about to start episode 3.

Also started to buy (for the first time) some manga volumes from a shop in my city. Not really a manga community wiz/otaku but the store didn't stock any fairytail volumes, due to TokyoPop's bust.
Somehow feels much better and clearer reading from a book compared to screens Kannagi vol 1 that I'm reading looking good so far (haven't watched anime of it yet).

Only problem is having to hunt for further 'missing' volumes..ah oh well.

Back to anime, pretty rhythm aurora dream, kawaii xx

Ah my new flatmate is annoyingly English  Lincoln needs more welsh people
    Wrong thread. :p:

I'm nearing the end of Kemono no Souja Erin, which I'm hoping I'll have time to finish and review tomorrow - I have friends (Pudding Earl and others) visiting in the afternoon, however, so can't make any promises. They're staying until Wednesday, and on Thursday I'm heading down to Reading, the closest my family gets to an annual holiday. :giggle: I'm unlikely to have internet access there, but will be taking my laptop, so (assuming it survives the journey, and doesn't overheat) I should watch quite a lot of anime.

Stumbled onto this, and it really helps to serve up my thoughts on Denpa onna (currently dragging through episode 11 to finish the series)

    Not my thought but close

It focuses on the last episode first up, but everyone else has probably seen it.

After the first 3-4 episodes I really did think it was going to be a quirky sci fi show about aliens...what the hell was this *******s they served up to us?

A slice of life series about a reclusive girl and her cousins attempts to help her move back into society.:indiff: The alien stuff was never anything more than a cover story she dreamt up and was pretty clear from the offset.

Yesterday I ordered some anime...one of them was moon phase 6, which I was certain would be out of stock, as I think I ordered the first five during my first year at uni, and forgot to get the last one as it wasn't on offer :teehee:

    Hooray for completed collections :awesome:

Also got birdy the might, bamboo blade, Outlaw star (before it went out of stock due to Beez losing most of its stock) and the first half of xam'd as a blind buy

Phew, I missed about 4 weeks worth of anime so I had a pile to watch.

    Blue Exorcist
    - Still enjoying the series although my sister said that the anime is basically different from the manga. Mostly fillers apparently. Although I didn't think they'd find out about Rin as early as that. I thought they were gonna delay it as long as they can.

Gintama - The last few episodes were packed with gags and some airshow for the less frequent characters. Patriots, the shogun, the scary monster neighbour who received the Edo bath house hospitality, the yorozuya fighting over a crab and the latest arc with Kyubei and a monkey with a long name (apparently based on Jugemu), namely:

Ah, can't get enough of this show and its stupid humour.

    Bakemonogatari
    - My sister was looking for a series to watch so I recommended this. Lead balloon, it didn't interest her! Ha. Too bad. I'll finish this series though as I've already seen about half of it a year ago.

    Chrno Crusade
    - This one ended up to be the one my sister wanted to watch, conveniently enough she had a copy of the series. Not so bad, all about demons, exorcists and set in 1920s America. Nothing special at the moment, but it's tolerable.

As for manga, I've only read the latest Kuroshitsuji. Another revelation! Ah, Undertaker.
