Gas is a "raw" material hence it does not need conversion, hence no conversion energy losses in order to be produced, therefore it is cheaper than electricity. Plus joule for joule (or watt) fire is more "energetic" than an electrical heating element.Last edited by cybergrad; 24-03-2011 at 11:55.

entirely depends where you draw the boundries on the systems and what sort of efficiency you're talking about (cost efficiency or energy efficiency)
there's always waste with gas as the hot fumes (which you've paid for) have to be exhausted to the outside of the house whereas with an electric heater you get virtually 100% of the energy you've been metered for going into your room.
