Some girl-friends of mine described another friend (who I think is roughly 5'9) as short?

Is this true? I thought short was 5'7 and under? The friend is a guy by the way.

Isn't the average male height in England 5'11? So I guess 5'9 would be classed as short, although many people might not think of it that way.

For a girl? Not at all, I'd class that as tall.

For a guy, I'd call it about average. Not short, though.

No idea. I always thought average was 5'9-5'10. I'm almost 6', so I considered myself kinda tall. Guess I'm just average then. Ah well.

shortness is in the eye of the beholder :P

But I would not say 5ft 9 was short. Anything below 5ft 6 I would consider short for a guy though but thats because I am 5ft 5. All things are relative....

Generally 5'6/5'7 and below you're going to get called shortarse

5'7-6'0 is normal in my book

6'1/6'2+ and you're in danger of straying into lanky/oafish realms

Well the average Tyrannosaurus Rex was around 15 feet tall and 40 feet long so I hope this answers your question.

5'9 is about average. I think anything below 5'7 is short for guys

This is spot on. Just thinking about my closest group of guy friends now I realize that 3 of them are 5'7 ish but you don't really think of them as being 'short' or any different to my friends who are like 5'10 5'11. It's as arbitrary as eye colour really. No issue whatsoever.

that's average for a guy (well in the UK).
but if your girl-friends are about the same height/a few inches shorter then they'll think your a bit on the short side.
but to me it's a good height, im 5'8/5'9 so for bf material i prefer guys that are taller then me
but your by no means short! x

For a guy I'd say that was about average, maybe a bit below but certainly not short.
