I just handed in my app form for my first 6 month placement in yesterday. Its so weird having to apply 14 months in advance. I mean I've only just finished the first semester of my second year and I'm already applying for a pre-reg place.

I have a Boots placement in the summer and hopefully will have sorted out the next pre-reg placement with them by the end of the summer (all whilst being in my second year lol).

You sort out your pre-reg places in the 2nd year? We don't even start thinking about it till 2nd half of 3rd year!

Thats the thing with Bradford and it's five year sandwich, places are limited so we have to apply much earlier. My mates on the four year were chilling whilst I was busy getting my app sorted.

Now that I've broken up I still don't feel like its a holiday as I have to do well in the exams.

Atleast we have summer with Boots sorted though, can't believe how quick they gave offers out this year.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got the email, and at first thought that itmight have been a hoax email because it was so early.

Got an e-mail from Boots yesterday....here is what it said:

Thank you once again for applying for our Summer Placement Programme
this summer. We are really pleased you want to join us.

As you are aware we have had a very positive response and are making
offers on a phased basis to help us to manage the large number of
    applications we have received.

We are currently reviewing your application against the remaining
locations we still have available and will contact you again regarding the
outcome in the near future. You can expect to hear from us again by the
    end of February 2006.

    Kind regards

    Talent Management Team

    Anyone else get this?

ALWAYS, ALWAYS CHECK YOUR JUNK EMAIL!!!
Despite adding Boots as one of my contacts, the offer letter went into my junk email box! The email arrived on 20th Jan 06.

I got an offer for a placement which reads similar to that one that people got in December.

    Good luck all.

Well done! Is the placement in an area near you?

I can't believe that for some people, they're delaying it even more till feb 2006! Hopefully itjust means that they're trying to find you an area to do your placement in.

Boots made me travel 10 miles each way every day to the store i was placed in. A guy who lived in that town was sent over my way, putting both of us at inconvenience; he had to get a weird bus which goes all over the place and took over an hour to work and i ended up having to pay ~£25 per week on petrol+parking, they weren't keen on us swapping either.

I wouldn't be too optimistic about receiving any kind of competent response from them :-P

I'll have to pay even more than that. As my place is in strand, I'll have to get 2 monthly travel cards.

You'll get paid at a higher rate then if you're in an expensive bit of london.
I got paid £5.57/hour. The next zone up whihc counted places like manchester city centre got £6.12/hour, so i imagine london will be at an even higher rate than that.

I'm happy I got a placement. However, like you say I'm gonna have to take a bus ride every day for about 40 minutes as it is about 15-20 miles away from me!! And I only get paid £5.57 an hour. Ah well.

I work for boots and also in the pharmacy area, but unfortunately for me I am in kingston university which is a new school of pharmacy so basically I cant get placement for boots thru them except tesco and alliance pharmacy for some strange reason. Does any one know how else I can cos i really would like to do a proper placement with them this year.

For this year, I'm assuming that it's too late as application deadline was ages ago. You can try next year and maybe talk to your Boots branch about it.

    Hiya,
This question relates to some posts that were around on these forums quite a while ago. But as most of you pharmacy students know, a few months ago we were all applying for our Boots summer placements.
The thing is, I sent off my acceptance to the placement in my local town, and have found out that Boots had recieved my offer acceptance..

Only thing is, I have not heard from them yet about any plans or whats going on. People with experience in summer placements, when should I expect to hear from Boots about the summer placement scheme? Will they contact me soon, or will i get it later on ie. in march.

    Thanks...

The last I heard from them is when they emailed me to say that they received my acceptance email and they'll email me later with more details. I am not expecting to hear much from them just now anyway. There is still a while left, so don't worry about it.
Maybe someone who has done a previous Boots placement might be able to shed more light. But I think that this year apparantly, we'll be having a bit more communication from our tutors, so it might be different from previous years.

How would you go about doing work experience. Ive already got my industry place sorted out, what about the pharmacy side? Do i just go to my local and ask for work experience????
