Investment Banking in France

Hi,

I'm not sure whether this is in the right area of the forum, so feel free to move it accordingly.

I was wondering if anyone had information regarding investment banks in France and courses French universities have which appeal directly to them.

The direct feeder to IB in France are the top three engineering grandes écoles and the top three business grandes écoles (even though the engineering schools are renowed to place better). Getting accepted into one of these is comparable to oxbridge in the uk if you're french, both in prestige and competitiveness, but easier if you're an international.

Think of how hard it is to get accepted in LSE to study pure economics as an undergrad, then think of how hard it is to get into a top london IB firm without at the very least a 2.1 from oxbridge/lse and then multiply that by the chances you have of not winning the lotto.
France is even more competitive than the UK in terms of IB.
It's a bad idea.If anything try looking into the big carrabean hedge funds if you're interested in a less competitive market than london.
Many top london firms have branches in tax havens, those are a little easier to get into.

Mate it's not worth it.
They have acceptance rates of 1-2%.

Their admission procedures are very very different to the UK and are more or less hell.

Not only shortage of places but also the fact that they do not even open their doors every year.
An IB position that opens in the country in a top firm will be known to pretty much every person even remotely intersted.
Add the fact that they are french nationals and know the country inside out while a brit will be a ''newbie''.

You'll be competing with university professors.

Switzerland is a much less competitive with very lurcative deals.

Another great option is Australia.

Interesting, I had no idea. Come to think of it, all the people I know working in IB there are upper class Frenchmen from very narrow backgrounds.

I'd rather work in London than either of those three, but Hong Kong and New York more than London (particularly after a few years).

If he was talking about écoles de commerce probably he was talking about ESCP, ESSEC and HEC, but there are few other grandes écoles.
If he was talking about eng. schools probably they are école centrale, ecole polytechnique and école des ponts.

you kidding? no école polytechnique and no école centrale?

Am sorry but l'ecole polytechnique de paris isn't an IB feeder like the ones I mentioned.Regardless it's one of the best in europe if not the world.

(Feel free to check where all of these people went to uni.)

http://www.graduates.bnpparibas.com/investment-banking.html

(Again same here)

I think I just listed the two biggest investment banks in france.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNP_Paribas#Notable_current_and_former_employees

I'll be sure to provide anymore proof if you still don'tbelievethat theprivate unis arethereal feeders and even that is an overstatement since they recruit only the very top of the graduates in maths, economics and engineering for training program the rest of their bankers are internally recruited.

Of course if you are some sort of genius you can go ahead and take the Parisbas yearly challenge which would be the equivalent of having a golden ticket to the chocolate factory.
