"NATWEST MC - £5" - but I've paid it off already? watch

I got today on my NatWest statement a mysterious "28 Mar 2011 - D/D - NATWEST MC - 5.00" - I am assuming this is my credit card, but I paid it all off either very early this month or late last month. I've read online that they take this £5 regardless of whether you've paid off your credit card or not?! If this is true, is my only option to cancel the credit card? I have no desire to use it again for a while anyway.

    Many thanks

You've set up a direct debit so they take it regularly.

    Buy something that costs £5.

Or go to a supermarket with one of those self-scan machines and insert coins until the amount you need to pay is exactly £5, then pay the rest by card.

Would the simplest option not be to cancel Direct Debit. May be difficult to reapply for card in future??

If you pay the balance off in full a few days before the direct debit is taken then they'll not have time to stop it. But if you don't actually use the card and leave a zero balance they won't take it just because.
