    BrO3- + ....Br- + .... H+ ---->.....Br2 + .....H2O

    i got
    BrO3- + 1Br- + 6 H+ ---->1Br2 + 3H2O

    but it should be:
    BrO3- + 5Br- + 6H+ ---->3Br2 + 3H2O

    is it wrong to put a 1 in front? can someone explain to me why it should be 5 and 3
    thanx

    In BR03-, the O3- has an oxidising number of -6, and therefore because the whole molecule has to have a charge of -1, BR has to be +5

    Therefore you balance it by putting 5BR-
    I think?
    Hope this helps.
