I actually know someone who goes there.

I only just heard of it last summer.

I still don't know how to say the name though...is it gross test? Who know?
It isn't gross as in gross and net.

    It rhymes with cross.

    test as in exam.

Grossteste means Big Head and not Big any other part of his anatomy.

Bishop Grossteste was the first Chancellor of Oxford University and a medieval philosopher.

The people who go there want to be teachers. That is what it specialises in.
    Ahhhhh, thank you.

It's very specialised - they don't run any science or healthcare courses that cost lots of money.

Money becoming so much of a consideration in University choice is a dark day for this country. :moon:
    Yep.

We have the Lib Dems to thank for this. All Lib Dem members who didn't tear up their membership cards should be ashamed of themselves.

All parties have or would put up tuition fees. Your lot introduced them (admittedly on the back of a Tory commissioned review), then went against a manifesto pledge to treble them. The young are a great source of 'income' in an economy that trades in debt, as you can say to investors that you will have a steady source of income for the next however long until you allow them to retire. You can also steer as many as you like to get into positions where they owe you, hence the vastly oversubscribed universities, the huge numbers of unemployed graduates and so on.

I'm actually disturbed that universities are now competing for students on grounds of price.

Universities are not competing for students, students are competing for universities.

I wonder what JMU will charge. I hate paying £3290 for what I'm getting. I'd rather work in Tesco than pay £9,000 here!

If they offered to pay my fees for me, I still wouldn't go there.

If you are not planning to be a teacher you are about as likely to go there as you are to read for joint honours in astro-physics and medieval Welsh at the Royal College of Music.

Perhaps Lib Dems actually read the Lib Dem manifesto last year?

    In particular the front cover.

Nah I never would even dream of going there but i'm shocked such a poor university in comparison with everyone else is allowed to charge £500 under Cambridge.

Which is why Oxbridge didn't want a fees cap.

I don't agree with raising tuition fees, but I do think that if some universities are charging £9k, it's best if everyone charges £9k - it at least means that people aren't going 'ooh, Leeds Met is £500 a year cheaper than UCL, I'll apply there instead'.
