Does anyone know what cations are present in weedkiller.
Most of the tests i've learnt are for anions?

    Appreciate it!

Weedkillers can be made up of many chemicals, but I guess you are referring to ionic compounds such as sodium chlorate rather than the organophosphates such as Glyphosate.

The flame tests for group I cations are a requirement of many basic introductory chemistry courses - I'm not going to bother to type them all here, that's what Google is for.

Weedkiller is usually sodium chlorate mixed with sodium chloride. It used to be pure sodium chlorate until a few people blew themselves (and others) up with it...

If you stretch the term to include fungicides then you also have iron(II) ammonium sulphate (which is also a fertilizer) and copper(II) sulphate.

    Thanks.
I did the experiment a few days ago - no Sodium came up. It's okay though

    hi churchgirl,

you said you did the experiment a few days ago, i have mine tomorrow, and was wondering what came up?
did you do all the experiments one day and then the analysis of results a few lessons later?
which particular areas would you recommend revising?

    thanks!
