I didn't go to UCLan but the first thing I did was move my boxes in and then introduce myself to everyone, find out a bit about them. Then unpack over the next few days.

Oh yeah, and bag the cupboards I wanted in the kitchen :yy:

Did you have your parent or anything with you, because im wondering when the best time to say goodbye is, because I think the longer theyre there, the less time Ill have to socialise :P

& When was it around you moved in.. before freshers week or after?

My mum helped me carry my boxes in and then went after that so that I could socialise. I think she was a bit bored too. I think it's always awkward when someone else has their parents there for a long time because it makes that person harder to talk to. You feel you should be polite to their parents even though you don't even know the person.

I moved in the weekend before Freshers week. It seems to be a standard day to move in.

I don't know what it's like at UCLan so I couldn't really comment, but it's quite easy to make acquaintances at uni but it can be more difficult to make friends. However there's bound to be some people you like but you do need to make an effort and not expect people to come up to you. You can always join societies so that you meet people with similar interests, and then try and get your friends to introduce you to their friends, and friends of their friends etc.

It's definitely more sociable in catered accommodation and also where you share a bathroom as you're more likely to bump into people that way.
