Any a member of chess sites? I'm personally on gameknot, if you fancy a game and are in the range for playing them just ask.

I keep meaning to get better at chess. I was probably better when I was a child than I am now (FML).

    Anyone recommend any good books?

Thanks. I'm the only person I know who bothered to bring my board to uni because I love playing. I also suck though.

    Wooo, chess!

I've been a 1.e4 player all my life. Attempting a switch to 1.d4 though - I like the look of the Catalan Got a match tomorrow night so hopefully I'll get a chance to play it!

I play the Grivas Sicilian as Black (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Qb6!?) and have reverted back to the Mordern Benoni after recently being thrased in my pet Black Knight's Tango opening (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 Nc6?!?)

My ECF is 179, if anyone is interested.

Also, here is a puzzle from one of my games from way back when. White to play, and win:

    3R4
    pN3PPP
    kpK1P3
    2P1p3
    2p5
    8
    5ppp
    r7

numbers represent number of blank spaces in a row; capitals for black pieces.

Enjoy! I had about 5 mins left in that position, and I guess it's one of the few times I was inspired and found the win!

We do have one here in its infancy - I've not been though but I do play a friend of mine a lot and another one infrequently. Will start playing more at some point though. Me and my mate always used to play when we would come home in the early hours completely drunk, because we're pretty strange like that.
