Can I have your solution then?

And same to you, you can have the rep if you join
Right, ok.
Spoiler:

First move, rook f4 - check.
G5 pawn stranded due to rook g7 check.
King - no option but h5.
Rook proceeds with h4 check.
G5 pawn takes leaving king rather constained at this point.
Finally white seals blacks fate with pawn g4! MATE
2. I'm at school tomorrow, so have the 3rd one early

White has this game in the bag, the only thing left to do is to find a way to end the game as quickly as possible (as there are multiple combinations) as this stubborn opponent won't resign. So...
Find the Quickest Mate! -- White's move. White to mate.

I ,think that's a bit unfair . If people think they can solve the puzzle , they should solve it (member/non member).Imposing restrictions wont increase the members ,it will decrease if anything .As you can find countless other puzzles on the internet.

Mate in three.
Bishop c7 check, rook takes.
Rook d8 check, rook back to c8.
Queen takes rook on c8 - mate.

I don't join societies btw.
6. Chess rocks, didn't know of this society but I'll be paying a visit every now and then and hopefully perhaps even have a game or two

Point taken... I just thought it might be a nice incentive to join

Fine then, puzzles open to everyone
8. As always, you guys are right...

Right then.. 3 more for the day!

A simple starter... In fact, I'm not even going to tell you what I'm looking for...

Find the best Move/Moves! .. White to move.

Spoiler:
Show

Next...
Find the Quickest Mate! (Again) -- White to Move!

Spoiler:
Show

Finally...
Find the Quickest Mate! (Again) -- Black to move!

Spoiler:
Show

As always, place your answers in spoilers so other members can have a crack.

These tactics are rated at ~1400 level, so should be easy for the seasoned player, but might be quite difficult (but not impossible) for the beginner.

When my own tactics level rises (currently ~1460 ish and rising), so will the puzzle difficulty

Again, this is a chess society, so if you want to talk games or other chess related stuff, don't let these puzzles put you off
9. Can I join? I'm normally not mean anymore. Except for some troll Maths thing that annoys the hell out of me. The worst kind of trolling ever and I'm not going to think about it as it's like thinking about a logical contradiction. I have some flaws in my game, hope you guys can help as a ton of books+ internet chess hasn't.

Also, I'm good at chess.

Spoiler:
Show
1.Bishopxg3 - khxg3
2. queenxh4 - kingx g1
3. queenxh2
or
1.Bishopxg3 - pawn takes knight on g4
2. queen to h4 - king to g1
3. queen to h2.

I suppose black would move his knight to the defending position. I don't see how to do it in less than 5 moves. I suck.

The puzzle don't seem that hard.

Spoiler:
Show
The best move is hard. What advantage are you looking at? Can't see the line. I suppose moving the bishop is the logical move as it then forces the knights of the board. You then have a bishop attacking along a nice diagonal and the queen in the center. Giving board control.

However, I feel their is more.

I've consider not moving the queen to take knight when blacks takes white knight(which is his only move that doesn't screw him up completely as you threated checkmake with knight to d6). However, it's is easy blocked by moving pawns and you lose a tempo+ down in material.

What if you move the queen first, I don't see that doing anything.

For the second one
Spoiler:
Show
I went a bit blind for a minute so took about a minute to solve.

1. rook to f7, king to e8
2. queen take pawn c6

P.S. Well, joined.

aah , simplicity .. out of curiosity what's your rating ?

I haven't been rated. Just played on flyordie for about a year on it, well really a year and couple of months. Suck at it now as I haven't played in like a year, so want to get better at it.

I'm not that good. Saying that I was a lot stupider two years ago.

P.S. Was I correct on the first one? Like I'm trying to work on puzzles that are spot the best move and not how do you checkmate in least moves.

Welcome welcome! .. Unfortunately, the first one is also a mate puzzle .. While your theory is sound, it wasn't what I was looking for. I can find a few best move puzzles for you if you like though .. Also, if you would like to learn opening theories, don't hesitate to ask! Opening's are the best part of my game

I will edit this post again when I find some interesting puzzles... I would like other people to have a go at above puzzles first!

Do you have a chess.com account? That's the best way to determine everyone's relative strength.

If you are familiar with their ratings, then most people on here are between 1350 and 1550 correspondence rating, with everyone generally dropping 100 points in ratings for live chess. However, Sad Clown has a correspondence rating of 1640 and a live rating of 1500, the best so far (of the TSR chess.com crowd). One person on here has an actual ECF rating (quite high from what I can gether) and a few play FlyOrDie (which I can mentally translate ratings between)

Anyway, you are very welcome here. Feel free to take part in the puzzles I post, and if you need opening help or a game analysed, feel free to ask! Other people may be better suited to middle/end game help then me

Brilliant! Could I ask for your username please? That way I can add you (or you can add me -- same name) to the friends list on there. That way it's so easy to challenge you to a game should you be up to it sometime

Lol the first is an easy mate. How the hell did I not see that? You said find the best move, instead of mate so assumed you can't mate. So didn't see the obvious.l I'm not that bad, honest.

I'm very bad if the enemy opens with d4. Don't really know any good opening against it as black and will never play it as white. Against e4 as black I would normally play sicilian defense. My opening game is very lacking. Was told not to worry about opening. However, since playing starcraft 2 a lot realised that would really need to know openings.

What opening would you suggest?

Spoiler:
Show
1. Queen to a4 so you get a free bishop

2. kn to f3, queen has to move. Either place you get a free bishop

A bit too easy. I'm not that bad. Chess puzzles are normally really easy because the calculations in chess aren't that bad. Just have to do all the possibilities and such.

P.S. I made chess.com account. simplicity123 add me. Although, I can't play that much now because of exams. But over the summer holiday will play a lot. Saying that you guys probably open d4 against me even through probably the crappiest person in this society.

believe it or not , some chess books (How to think like a grandmaster ) suggests drawing a tree diagram for all the possible candidate moves ( not to be done in a real game of course ,but for training purposes) , and working out the tactics for each move ..

I have seen that in books. Most books I got on chess and read online just have anaylsis of games played.

I might get a book on a lot of big problems. However, they seem not to improve my game at all.
