Is it a very competitive course? I understand it's for science/engineering graduates that didn't do a degree in Computer Science or Computing, but do you need knowledge of programming languages e.g. C++?

I'm predicted a solid first in Civil Engineering, in my second year, and am strongly considering applying for this course. Would I be a viable candidate?

Should I learn some basic C, C++ and/or Java over the summer?

I'm not a stranger to programming, as my current degree features extensive MATLAB programming.

    Heya,

I'm not from Imperial but I would suggest to everyone who wants to do a Msc em Computer Science and didn't do a undergraduate in computer sciente to study some programming over the summer before the course starts.

You should learn C and Java. If you are good with maths and logic you will be alright just need to study.

    Hey Ilustrius

I have been accepted to this course so feel free to ask me any questions. My background is in maths/civil engineering and I have 3 years professional programming experience (Visual Basic and C++).

Although this is a conversion course the word 'conversion' does not stand for 'introduction'. This is 3 years of undergrad CS and maybe even more compressed into one year. My impression during the interview was that they do put strong emphasis on programming skills among applicants. So my advice would be to start learning C/C++.

Can you tell me what did they ask you in the interview? was it about the course/modules or your motivation? any math/cs questions?
even though I applied to a different course (Advanced Computing) but that would be helpful.

    Thanks.

They seem to not interview everyone.

I have an interview scheduled in April, so I'm sure they're interviewing at least some people.

I applied MSc in Advanced Computing.

I applied 22/11/2010 and got offer 08/12/2010 (Imperial is the most effective uni ever ). I didn't get interview, that's why I told you they don't interview everyone so to not worry to much about it, but as you got one good luck !

I think it's because you applied early and at that time they didn't have many applications, so they offered you. I applied this month and it's clear that they have far more applications now.

Thanks, hope to see you next year there!

    Hi Thinker03

I applied for the msc computing(specialism) course at imperial for 2012/2013.
I have been invited for an interview next month. I dont know what type of questions to expect.

How did your interview go? And what type of questions were you asked?

Btw the interview is with Mr.Jacobson.

    Thanks
