Hey, did anybody here enter for the 'Thomas Campion English Prize' that Peterhouse in Cambridge run? The deadline was on the 25th. I entered for the one about suiting the word to the action - which ones did you guys go for?

On the website it says they'll email receipt of our essays 'hopefully' by the 1st of April. I don't suppose anybody's heard back yet? I'm too excited.

If there are as few people applying as there are replying, then I have nothing to worry about!

I didn't do this, and have nothing to add, but I am doing English at Cambridge and I'm curious about your essay. How did you go about answering the question?

I talked about The Waste Land and Waiting for Godot, with a slight emphasis on the latter. I opened up (rather pretentiously) with a quote from a book on musicology about suiting the melody of music to what the music narrates, and then used that to launch into some stuff about the 'music of ideas' that I A Richards wrote about in an essay that I vaguely remembered. I have no idea how well I'll do - I suspect that I should have done more research, since I basically used two books from Macmillan's 'Casebook' series as a sort of gospel, but I have really enjoyed putting it together even if I don't win/get commended!
