Err... when it comes to Test matches, i can safely say they are the worst (and im Bangladeshi)
I mean i know Sri Lanka have some great bowlers...
Best spinner in the game, unorthodox bowling from Malinga and then 2 more experienced bowlers but geez, at least put up a little fight and get half respectable totals...
Anything under 200 is a bit but getting 65? *cries*

I'm from a West Indian background, and have been following cricket from an early age. I've always supported the West Indies, and it's sad to see their decline recently.

The World Cup campaign wasn't very good, as they struggled to win in the Super-8s, and the atmosphere also wasn't good. It is claimed that the ICC killed the spirit of Caribbean Cricket.

However, hopefully there'll be some joy, as they have just made 278-5, and England are reeling on 125-5 after 26 overs.

COME ON WINDIES!!!!! xD

england:

same ****, different match

get behind the rate early on

get into a position where the rate needed spirals out of control and something like 10 an over are needed (if wickets have been lost or not)

lose

:proud:
Ashraful has another century to his name!
261-5 is a respectable score Need Rahim to go on and convert his score to a century too and Ashraful to try and bat till the end
This is exactly why we made him the new captain, so we can depend on someone to perform when it matters!

299 (why didn't they get 300!) Is a decent score (for Bangladesh)
I don't expect Bangladesh to win Test matches nor to become the best team in the world over night/any time soon but what i want (as a supporter) is evidence of advancement and improvement...

Ashraful 129 not out.. great score from the new captain imo but i still have a couple of complaints...
Why is he not slightly higher up the batting line up? Rahim (wicketkeeper) scored a great 80, considering how young he is and just come back after being left out for the 1st test match but there was no one else to help Ashraful continue on for a great score, once Rahim was gone, the tail collapsed all too familiarly
269 for 6 and then 299 all out, 30 runs for 4 wickets is not good enough for me and the fact is, Ashraful was responsible for 2 of those, as they were run outs after he called  So while he should be happy with his fine innings, he should be wary of causing the own collapse...
Similarly, the only notable score in 4 innings, have to be more consistent.
0 in the first inning (3 balls)
7 in the first inning of 1st test (13 balls)
37 in 2nd inning of 1st test (131 balls)
129 in 2nd inning of 2nd test (236 balls)

Some good fight in the 2nd innings for both Tests but not getting into even double figures in 2 innings is just poor imo...

The Bangladeshi innings was slightly flattered by Ashraful + Rahim too
From 48-0 to to 59-4
and then 269-6 to 299 all out...
Basically 2 collapses during the innings and beside the two, no one else with a good score (Omar 28, Nafees 20 and Bashar 12) everyone else in single figures...

HOPEFULLY this innings by Ashraful and Rahim will continue into the next test and in both innings (particularly from Ashraful) and rub off onto a few more players...
Only one century + one half century from Bangladeshis from 2 innings compared to 2 x 30s, a 49, an 80 and a double century from SL who then declared too..
so 8 SL's outscored 22 Bangladeshi scores...

Well that certainly seems to the be the case in ODI matches but there seems to be a huge gulf between their ODI and Test match performances...

They've played around 50 tests now, and are still getting skittled out for 60 odd. Its just not good enough and doesn't represent enough improvement.

They were thrown into test cricket too quickly, they are never going to compete unless they sort out their domestic structure first.

I have nothing against Bangladesh but they really are making a mockery of test match cricket.

But then removing them from Test matches and giving back in a few years isnt going to help either is it?
If you remove their status now all the focus will go on ODIs and the structure in the country for Test matches will probably disappear so Bangladesh would be in a worse position?

Hahahahahahah did anyone see Bangladesh's pathetica record low score in the test match? So this proves my point that they're a pretty crap team!

I can't wait for England to face some decent opposition like India.

How about you get them the same level of funding that England gets and see what can happen

Down, down, deeper and down

Bangladesh's 62 against Sri Lanka was depressing but there have been much worse ... here are the lowest team totals since World War Two

Worth a read, is pretty funny :p:

I have nothing more to say about englands limited over cricket. It's pathetic all round.

Put it this way; I put a substantial bet on the windies to win today (because it was something like 2/1 when i looked) because i was that confident. It's a victory of sorts I suppose.

I share your apathy HorrorShow

The frustrating thing is that I thought I had an understanding of where we were going wrong in OD cricket. Yet it seems game by game we just find new ways of shooting ourselves in the foot and undoing previous good work.

Solid start in the warm up game for the Indians. Touring England in the late summer should help.

Yeah same. But I think the 'review' of one day cricket we had didn't really do much for us. I mean, firstly there was the issue of powerplays. Thus far, we haven't used the powerplays at all despite being told they would. It's the same cautious approach in the main. This usually results in our top order batsmen being out for par scores with strike rates of around 50. They tend to do this, as opposed to either digging in for the entire innings and accelerating to a hundred, or having a dash at the start. Either result would be more desirable.

I'm not sure what to think about the bowling side of things. On sky the commentators were raving about how the windies have fast agressive specialist wicket taking bowlers to take wickets in the middle overs. Wtf? Of course they do, but to suggest that we do the same is useless. We have bad, (and for the majority, one paced/slow) batsmen. Fullstop. That's why we need to reduce our tail by having bowlers who can bat (and vice versa) i.e. mascarenhas (though he will probably, and should now be dropped). And with regards the 'aggression': If england used that type of bowler who bowled in the same areas it would be called 'eratic', ill disciplined and would slated as easy to score off. And we'd also be accused of not having bowlers who can 'contain' the opposition.

I think that our middle over bowlers have been fine to be honest. They've not taken wickets but they've built up pressure. Pressure which inevitably needs to be released by boundary hitting in the last few overs. With some decent bowling and realistic field placings in the last 10 overs, we could easily take wickets in a heap and starve the scoring at the end, and thus reduce score like 280 down to 220. Sort of like the aussies did in the world cup against england.
