no i dont think they are rly supposed to, unless your mayb feeling rly suicidle, or you have comitted a big crime or wateva, they only rly tell if they think its an important matter that they actually need to inform your parents...
Does anyone know what the actual rule is on this? Or even if there is one?
By this I mean, if you are talking to a teacher about stuff in your life E.g. stress / depression, whatever, are they obliged to tell your parents?
I think if it is serious they have an obligation to help you out - ie talk to a counsellor/ social services. And as was said if it was a danger to your health then they probably would tell your parents... Im not aware of any rules on teacher/ student confidentiality.
If you can you'd probably be better talking to a counsellor/ nurse/ doctor who whould be bound to such confidentiality rules.
I know this having seen one of the briefs for mentoring: the teacher is obliged to tell if he/she thinks that you may come to harm e.g. if you say you're being abused, physically bullied, etc.
