Though I'm only in first year of university yet I have been giving some thought to whether I might want to do a master's. Not to blow my own trumpet too much, but I've always been a smart kid, solid four and a half A-levels, but bombed when I went for my Oxford interview (though then, as now, I had doubts about whether I'd fit in as an Oxford undergrad anyway).

I'm currently studying French and linguistics at Southampton University - a good place, by all accounts. I have been getting firsts all year, and very much enjoy the research process and producing essays, blah de blah. You can tell by how long-winded I'm being even writing this post.

My question is - given I get a first and all that - if I applied to Oxford for postgraduate study, would I be likely to get in from Southampton?

Of course it's possible. People do this all the time, it's really no big deal.
