I have been invited to a party which isn't strictly shirt and tie, but I'd like to make the effort.

I'm pretty limited to the number of ties I have at Uni (purple/solid and grey/patterned). The shirt I'm wearing will look similar to this (http://www.thomaspink.com/fcp/produc...-Cuff/99913601) just a regular blue and white button down, buttons on the collars.

Would my solid purple tie go with this?

I wouldn't say so, especially with that shirt being so busy.
